RTV Reccomendations for the exterior of my car?

Hi all,

I bought a rear window visor last year and the first one I put on dropped in about a week from my rear window. The 3M double sided tape must have had imperfections which allowed water to flow through and eventually fail. The seller shipped me another one for a few dollars and this one I installed and lined the entire top edge of it with black electric tape to not have the same incident happen again - temporary fix.

Now that the weather is warmer I want to use an RTV to seal the top of the rear window visor so that I can take off the electric tape and not worry about it falling again. ANY reccomendations? I am looking for something relatively cheap that will hold up for years against rain, snow, salt, and snow.

9/10 times it's not the RTV/tape you use, it's HOW you apply it. Make sure you have a clean surface, make sure you use lots of pressure and hold it on there while it adheres for like 60 seconds. As far as RTV goes, IMO, I WOULDN'T use it. Just get some good 3M tape and try it again.

I knew I forgot to mention something: I did thoroughly clean the area before hand. I used Windex and cleaned my rear window using a microfiber cloth till it was literally "squeaky" clean not once but twice covering a wide area both times. The first time however, I just kind of stuck it on there and pressed down a few times. The second time I carefully bended the piece against its normal curvature and applied it carefully from one side to the other so that not only would the adhesive stick but a little bit of extra pressure would be applied by its own curvature which I believed to be the best possible way of installing it. Now to be careful I did this (NOTE: this is the second brand new one which is held on by its own curvature and factory fresh 3M tape but I added tape on top to prevent any water to deteriorate the adhesive):

Basically, I want to remove the tape which did its job during the winter and line the edge of the visor with a recommended RTV to seal the 3M adhesive strip from the majority of elements it would face from the top side at least - I am not planning on lining the underneath.

This way my friends will stop asking me if its being held on by tape and I will once again be able to see the chrome trim surround my rear window = way better looking.

Windex is not the best pre-cleaner for 3m tape...I've always use Alcohol to clean the surface before the application. Never had a problem with it (3m tape)coming loose.
