I'm in the process of doing a lot of replacing in my car right now (all 4 doors, drivers fender, carpet, seats) and need a question answered.
When I removed the old carpet I just cut around where the seatbelt is bolted in. I mentioned I was going to unbolt the seatbelts to put in the new carpet to my friend (who works on VW's usually) and he told me that I would have to get new bolts from the Toyota dealership after I take the current ones out. He told me it is because they are threaded in a special way since they are for the seatbelts. Can anyone confirm this? The bolt in question is this one...
Just curious was your car in bad shape prior to replacing all of this stuff? Im in the middle of deadening my car right now, so my interior looks just about like yours. Good luck!
Thanks for the fast replies! That's what I had thought, they look like normal bolts, but I just wanted to be sure.
Yeah, the previous owner of my car was a bit of a slob...the seats wern't too bad, but the carpet was disgusting...I'm also assuming they wern't well liked, since two of the door panels had significant key-ing marks, lol. That combined with all the dents encouraged me to hunt down the new (well, new to me ) parts.
I don't recall Toyota specifying the replacement of these bolts, but I could be wrong.
I know VW specifies the replacement of a lot of bolts when you remove them. For example, all aluminum bolts and even caliper mounting bolts that are probably torqued-to-yield. Their engineering is actually pretty advanced, but just a pain to work on.
ToyotaTrav, you didn't have to slice that bolt cover in half. It's really tightly held on, but all you do is pull it out toward you, and it slides up the belt.
Others have already answered, but you are correct, the bolts do not need to be replaced. I have removed and re-attached the front seatbelts twice over the past few months.

ahhh, I see, that is interesting, now I know! Thanks for the information, everybody on here has taught me a lot!
Tonight I plan to take out the bolts and reassemble everything, I'll let everyone know how it goes!
