Exhaust flex pipe - 00 Camry I4

I just wanted to verify a few facts from other threads. It's been many years since i've dealt with exhaust.

My flex pipe is leaking on my 00 Camry I4. Is the exhaust pipe diameter 2.25 (od)? So i would need to get a 2 1/4 in. i.d. x 2 1/4 in. o.d. flex pipe like this one with the larger opening pointing to the engine:

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/cat...oductId=328170

Does this slide on like a muffler would over the exhaust pipe then weld it in place?

Any opinions on brands like Maremont or Jegs?

Guess you can't clamp it in place like a muffler and let the seal rust like on my old Dodge.

Thanks.

Do you remember if 2.25 is the correct size?

Yeah it has to be welded on. If you dont have a welder and wanna diy it you can just order the entire pipe with the flanges.

However diy will cost the same as getting just the flex pipe welded in. Its up to you if you want to do the work and replace a good chunk of the pipe. I just had one welded in.

I got under the car and took some measurements. The pipe from the exhaust manifold is ~ 2 1/2" and shrinks to 2" where the flex pipe connects (the last 2-3").

The Flex pipe is 7 1/2" long.

The outlet exhaust pipe is about 2 7/16.

Looks like i can replace it with the following parts:

2 in. i.d. x 2 in. o.d. x 8 in. length universal flex coupler:
http://www.autozone.com

2 1/2 in. i.d. x 2 in. o.d. aluminized exhaust adapter:

Is it possible to "burn the valves" with an exhaust leak at the flex pipe? Usually you hear this if the exhaust leak is at the manifold.

You have a chance of burning the valves if you have a crack or hole in the manifold. At the flex pipe, no. There's a catalytic converter and two o2 sensors before the flex pipe. A leak there isn't going to affect anything but the sound of your engine. Still a good idea to replace it though.

let me know how that flex pipe you're getting works. I'll be replacing mine at my next oil change, along with the oil pan gasket. I was going to cut out the old pipe at places so the new one will fit right in there, then butt weld it so I don't have to screw with adapters or anything. Also to help with the flow

Just wanted to let the members in here know that in the event and if you decide to go OEM, I offer TN members 30% off MSRP on parts. Even if you don't use it for this job, you may want to keep that in mind for when you do have to use OEM.

Good luck on fixing your current situation and let me know if I can be of any help.
