4th Generation A/C Light Flashing

flashing green light, I tried switching out the relays as indicated in posts, did not work. Bought a new A/C Relay still did not work. The green light stays lit for 2 or 3 seconds, then it starts flashing. It sounds like the compressor starts but kicks out after 2 or 3 secs. There has been some times when I turn it on and it will work for like five minutes. Dont know how thats possible

If your compressor is cycling, you might be low on R 134.

IIRC, this is usually a compressor issue, or the system can be low on R134a. Diagnosis is on page 15 of Air Conditioning. http://camrystuff.com/index.php?page=Gen4_Manuals

I recall something similar happening to me a couple months ago while it was very hot and humid outside. But eventually the blinking stopped and A/C blew cold again. At 350k miles, I presume it's time I get the freon replaced?

I'd at least have the hi/low pressures checked. If it looks like things have leaked out a bit, after 350K miles, I'd probably have the system evac'd, the receiver/dryer (and associated o-rings) replaced, and new refrigerant put in. However, if pressures are still within spec, I'd leave well enough alone.

My friend's 2000 5SFE had the blinking A/C light but also the battery light. Both his AC/Alternator and power steering belts were bad. I think he had about 60,000 miles on the belts.

We replaced them and and the A/C is working fine now.

Had the same here. No battery light in my case, but blinking A/C light. First started doing it when it rained which clued me to the belt.

You reminded me. Both lights started flashing when it rained a lot one day.

4th Generation Problem Fixed

I took in my car to the shop, it had an oil leak that was coming from the side wall. I told them to replace the water pump, timing belt, Tensioner, and a lot of seals. When I got my car back it sounded great, and a rattling sound that was coming from the passenger side of the motor was gone. Also the A/C was fixed. The A/C light stays solid, don't know what it was but i'm pretty sure it had something to do with that rattling.
