Gas Fumes Revisited - Drivers Door

Posted a few weeks ago about after replacing fuel filler neck in 3rd Gen Wagon was getting gas fumes in the car... After much investigation, I still cannot find any leaking gas or obvious place for the source of the fumes... I could have swarn I was getting fumes from the car through the vents... turns out, I only get the smell when the drivers window is open, and the car is motion, smell is not coming from the vents it doesn't appear anyway..

Now, I've checked fuel lines, fuel filter etc and cannot seem to find any place for the source or the fumes, but I know they are there... Minor but there...

Any thoughts?

- Matt

if you look under the front of catalitic converter, theres holes, some of this are suppose to have a rubber plug, if missing, plug them , good luck

I had that same problem for 2 years where i would smell gas fumes if i stop somewhere and the radiator fans come in. I thought it was the charcoal canister, until one day i decided to change the gas tank cap for about 15 bucks from the dealer and bam, problem solved.

I hear you have to change your oil filler cap and gas tank cap every 3 years.

you sure you don't have a gas leak from the fuel filter ?

on camry it sits on driver side by the air cleaner box. when you smell it fuel it might be coming from there when fans are running.

when smelling fumes then you have to check the exhaust for cracks, e.g. the flex pipe.
