4th Generation Removing Rear Caliper Sliding Pins

How do you remove the rear caliper sliding pins? I removed one of the pins very easily (bottom pin), however I don't see a bolt to remove the second pin (top pin) anywhere. How does this work? I've got a 97 V6. I have the bottom pin removed and the caliper rotates around the top pin. Should the top pin just slide out at this point?

depending on the design the top pin may be attached directly to the caliper bracket. In these cases, just pull the caliper towards the inside of the car and slide the caliper off the bracket

its screwed into the bracket on some. if the end is flatted instead of being round, you can put a proper sized wrench on it to unscrew it. if it is completely round then you cannot remove it without using vice grips and possibly damaging it.

why do you need to remove it? if you are trying to get the caliper off just rotate it up and slide it off.

The sliding pin is seized and I can't fit new pads on the caliper. Only thin extremely worn down pads will fit.

It is stuck. I tried wiggling it, prying it with a screwdriver, and tapping it with a hammer. It doesn't move at all, it only rotates.

ok, you could try heating up the caliper where the pin goes through, soak it with PB blaster, try to work it in or smash it real good with the 4lb hammer.

Why don't you look at a manual for your generation car to determine how that pin is designed to come out. If you don't have a manual you can download a Toyota factory service manual for your generation for free at the top of the Camry forum over at AutomotiveForums.com. The manuals are stickeid there. Download the generation 4 manual and look at the brake section (section BR).

I got one from Camry Stuff. It looks like it's supposed to slide out by itself once you remove that one pin. Other cars seem to have this design as well.

Unfortunately it's gonna have to wait for another weekend.

if the caliper still rotates on that pin, you should be able to keep spraying lubricant in there and keep working it untill you loosen up what i suspect is a ring of brake dust, rust and grease thats keeping it from sliding off.
