Locks not opening/Remote Entry for a 1995 Camry LE
Hello,
I bought a 1995 Camry 4 Cyl.2.2 L last month. The key the owner gave me opens just the Driver's door and not the passenger door or the trunk.
Why is it so??Can anyone please show me with pictures as to how to remove the lock? I know there is a DIY to remove the door handle. But not the lock.Is there a way to check it?
My second question was, even if I am not able to unlock the doors and the trunk Can i fit a remote entry to this car? Did it have it in the first place? and If I can fit one, which is the cheapest and best one that is compatible.
Please reply as I have joined this forum hoping to find answers because I Want to maintain my camry really well. I hope someone replies.
Try putting that key in your glove box. If it won't turn the glove box lock then you have a valet key. You'll need to get a new one cut at the dealer (less than $10). Just show them your ID and regestration with VIN number.
Keyless entry options are plentyful and easy to install. I DOUBT your car came with it though... although some 3rd gen camrys did. If there's no security light, then chances are most likely you don't have keyless/security. As far as options for install, it depends on what you want to do. Keyless? Remote start?

Thanks for the reply. But both the keys that he gave dont open.Is it possible that there are 2 Valet keys? and sorry for this stupid question?
Which is the security light on the Dash? and yeah I want to do a Remote Entry( hope this is the right word: something that unlocks the car so that i can get inside at once, instead of trying to open the door standing in the cold).
If you want Keyless entry, your gonna need an actuator which moves the lock. If you have power doors then you only need one actuator, if you dont your gonna have to buy all four or two depending if you want all doors to unlock. Mine came with a valet key, a chipped key, and a non chipped master key.

That's incorrect. I've done keyless and remote start installs. You won't need actuators for cars with power locks.

It's possible that you have 2 valet keys. My car came that way for god knows what reason. The shape only works for Toyota keys with the OEM Sombrero logo. And some times theyre all square shaped. Black for master and gray for valet. It sounds like the OP has 2 valet keys and needs to get a master key.

The security light would NOT be part of the gauge cluster. It's usually a small red LED just sitting somewhere. If you don't see anything that says "Toyota Security" we can rule out your car have an OEM alarm/keyless system.
Remote entry is the right word.

If someone made a copy of the valet key at walmart or somewhere, you could have 5 valet keys. And on a 95 you will not have a chip in your key. So copies will be cheap, like lynchburg said, less than 10 bucks . On my old 95 camry I had factory (as far as I know) keyless entry and an alarm, the red light was slightly below and to the right of the steering column on that lower dash panel. There's a small plastic pop-out right there where mine was installed. I hope something in this hodgepodge helps.
Thanks so much for the replies. But yesterday, I did get a key made by the dealer. It opens the Drivers door and the Glove Box.But not the trunk or the passenger door.Could there be a problem with my locks?
Those locks could've been replaced or maybe they are gummed up. The only real way is to pull the locks and check them. Or you could pay a locksmith to do it...and they could reset the cylinder.

i have the OG keys from when i got my car back 98... big square like black key and 2 square shape plain metal keys... ALL which dont lock the glove box
i cant remember but i think i was able to lock it before.. but now i cant..
sprasv: if you got power locks i would go ahead and install a aftermarket alarm system. (viper Python Clifford Automate etc etc) theres a DIY on here for it and plenty of us gen3 owners have done it.

I had a new problem beginning yday.
My Fuel Gauge has stopped working. I ve driven 60 miles and its still full!!
How do i get this repaired?
And one more question was Do the fans near the radiator rotate when the car is idling. ( this might be a really stupid question, excuse me for that-I am a newbie to cars and engines.

Thanks,

Fuel gauge = search, then start a new thread IF NEEDED.
Rad fans = They rarely like to turn on, to the point that most people worry that they're broken. If it's cool outside and you have the hood open with the engine idling... they probably won't turn on.
