Australia O/D Off Flashing

The O/D Off started flashing this afternoon when it was engaged and the car is extremely slow on acceleration.

Bridged E1 and TE1 to get the codes and the O/D Off flashed 62
And the Engine light was flashing to and giving me 22

Anyone have any ideas what the codes are and whats wrong with our '93 Camry 3VZFE Auto?

Thanks in advance

DTC 62 #1 Solenoid Valve Circuit malfunction

Either the #1 solenoid valve on the tranny) is toast, or the wiring to it has come loose.

You should be able to work around this (very short term) by starting out with the tranny in L, and then shifting up to D once you're up to 30 or so mph. Have to downshift manually back to L at lower speeds. If you don't do this, the rig is basically driving everywhere in 3rd gear (even from a dead stop)...that's not good for either the motor or the transmission.

If you want to try a DIY fix, over at www.camrystuff.com , Generation 3, there is a download for the '93 ES300 (similar to the 3VZ Camry) -- the automatic transmission section is there would go into detail about the location, etc. of the #1 solenoid valve. I've never replaced a solenoid valve on a 3VZ-equipped Camry, so I can't say for certain how difficult this would be.

DTC 22 is open / short in the engine coolant sensor. Unless you're having serious idling problems when cold, this is probably a stored code of a momentary glitch. I'd clear the codes (pull the EFI fuse -- in the main fuse box, driver's side firewall up near the battery -- for about 60 seconds) and see if it recurs.

Yes I know about the code 22 as the idle is a bit low when cold
and the hydraulic fan is not working so it must be the coolant temp near the thermostat as I've tried pulling it off and the fan worked

will try and read the FSM

Thank you very much

Page 84-86 describes how to test code 62 or 63.

Good Luck! I have the same problem right now!

I'm not sure myself, I haven't priced them, but I have a code 63 right now, and I just had the trans fluid pan off, and had both solenoids #1 and #2 out, and they both work fine, so I am looking at the same problem, but assume it is wiring?

Shows how to drain fluid, while you have it open the solenoids are right there..

At least a good piece of one. The solenoid assembly (85420-32102) lists for $288 (oh, and the associated o-rings about $3 each). Probably run you $200 from the cheaper online dealers & maybe $150 or so on fleabay. Thing is, 'tho, that's all three solenoids...I don't see a listing for just the #1 solenoid. Doesn't mean you can't get it separately, but you'd need a parts guy who knows how to work the system.

Probably should be able to cross-reference that part over at Rockauto to the equivalent Denso (Toyota's OEM for most of their electrical stuff) part for quite a bit less. Off chance the OEM is Aisin, but I think they just do the transmission mechanical stuff.

does the valve body needs to come off the tranny too or can I access it with just the pan off?
how can I differentiate the #1 from #2?

If it is set up like the tranny in the Cressida, all you would need to do is drop the pan, being careful not to spill tranny fluid on yourself, and remove the lines and solenoid. This is how it is done on the Cressida, the Camry maybe similiar.

I went to a wreckers/junkyard and dropped the pan, the strainer then there's another pan looking with heaps of 8mm bolts where the strainer was that stops the o/d solenoid and covering the #1 & #2 solenoids

Well thought I'd bump this thread. I'm now having same issue with my 92 4 cyl LE. I get codes 62 AND 63! Before rhw starting in higher gear from stop was occasional. Now more often.I haven't seen any follow ups as to if others fixed their issue or what. I don't want to sink too much into car. I may just keep manally shifting till it dies. Any other tips?

Have you found out what the codes are? Does not always have to be solenoids, could be tranny computer or even wires leading to solenoids.
