how to remove console 2000 Camry

Need help please. I have a broken shift cable on my 2000 Camry. Replacement seems straightforward (tho obviously a pain in the neck) except I don't know how to remove the center console.......or what else needs to be removed (ash tray?, etc.) I told my husband I can do this myself and I know I can if I can get to it. Does anyone have a guide, manual, or advice? I've looked on line and can't find anything useful. Thanks

Well, you can remove the console up to a certain point. The center console with the arm rest can come out with only two bolts inside of it and there are two screws that keep jointed with the dash itself. From there I think the forward section of the console and dash are all one piece.

You will have to remove the frame around the stereo/ac controls. I believe you have to pull up the trim from the shifter also. Most of the screws are hidden behind those items. There are two other screws also. I think one of them may be hidden behind the edge of the glovebox, and the other one is behind the edge of the large plastic panel under the steering wheel. I could be wrong about any of this. I removed the center console a few months ago but I don't recall exactly where all of the screws were. It's do-able.

You will have to remove the rear (armrest) portion before you can pull the front part out. Be very careful separating the two. It's very east to break the little plastic pieces holding the two together. To my recollection, the armrest half pulls straight UP.

Here's a tiny bit of help from http://www.camrystuff.com/index.php?page=Gen4_Manuals

The section "Body (1.6MB, 135 pages)" at least shows the parts you're dealing with a where a few of the screws should be. Starts at page BO-72.

Cannot access the body manual. I get an Adobe error or computer freezes. I think it would have been a big help. Wondering if you can tell me if I have to take the glove box out. Also does it show type of clips used? I really hate to mess this up or I will not hear the end of it. Thanks everyone.

My glove box is out right now, so I will take a look if one of the screws is hiding in an area the glove box would be covering up. I'll let you know when I get back.

Ok, there is indeed a screw in the area of the bottom left corner of the glove box. I think this is a mutual screw that holds in both the glove box and the front portion of the center console. If not, then the glove box still may be covering it up.

Cable is in. Thanks, everyone, for all the help. Now I just have to put everything I took apart back together.

Would like to address the blower motor issue. (First two speeds don't work.) You told me that it may be the resistors. I haven't the foggiest where to find it. I don't know what it looks like so I could be looking right at it and not realize it. Once I find it, then what? Replacement? Testing?
