hey all, I have been lurking a lot and not much posting and had a question.
I have a 95 camry le with the 5sfe. I want to make it have more exhaust sound without being loud. I'd prefer a lower groan under heavy load. have any suggestions?
Searchy. I like the Apex'i knock offs from k2motor.com that Spitfire found.

hmm. i was just on their site and they didnt list a muffler for a 95 camry. you have a model number that works well with the 5sfe?
They dont make mufflers for the Camry. They are universal ones where you have to bring it to a muffler shop so they can weld it onto your car. Spitfire bought the K2 Apexi knock off mufflers first and they are great. I have one on my 95 Avalon http://www.k2motor.com/mf-rs310.html

95 Avalon is the 1MZ-FE... not the 5S-FE... but i'm glad it sounds good! Here's my old 5S-FE camry. Custom cold air intake and stock resonator with the K2motor muffler:

New Member - Looking for advice for 97 Camry exhaust
-- Hey there !
I've been looking around for a bit now to find a muffler or exhaust system to give me more sound on my Camry. I thought i found one and went to my mechanic for advice. He said becuase the way the exhaust system is placed, i would need to purchase a cat back system. He also stated that the Camry isnt like the civics were you throw it on and your done it has to be a direct fit.
Any advice for trying to make Camry sound more aggressive and a little bit louder?

Your mechanic is lazy. Get a new one. It's the same as a civic is... weld it together and it's done.
Anyways... V6 or I4 engine? year?

Drop that mechanic. Seriously. If he doesn't want to cut one pipe... weld on a new one, weld a new muffler, and weld some new hangers, then to hell with him. I've posted info for you in this thread and the one you started. So i'll leave it at that for now.

haha ok cool .. as i said ill post a few options on my thread when i get home and you can look at them.
I have a Dynomax super turbo muffler on my 1988 3S-FE manual transmission and I love it. It has a nice sound on take off, deep just loud enough you can hear it inside the car. Does not have a droan on the highway. The fact that it is not an automatic helps. It was cheap, around $50 at advanced auto. They actually stock a muffler that would work with the right in and out offsets. Just get the right size reducer to adapt to your stock exhaust and then put the same size outlet pipe out of the muffler with an aftermarket tip. This can be done with clamps, but is way easier to weld. This muffler is basically a s-shaped glass pack. It takes out all the higher pitched rasp. When down shifting at lower RPMs it has a nice backpressure gargle.
If you want the tip to be nice and tight to the car and not bounce on the exhaust hangers. There is a trick I use. I'm an electrician so I use 1/2" EMT and cut a piece about 1" long and then stuff that in the middle of the hangers furthest to the back. There is still enough dampening the vibration doesn't transfer to the car, but it tightens things up.
