i have been using Fram filters for ages. recently i found out they are the worst filters out there.
lower paper size
cardboad incaps (instead of metal)
paper ends are clamp on
poor quality dranback valve
what do you guys think about it? i just started using purolator on my camry and i use mobile1 on my avy.
some times its unrealistic when good name brands do some thing like this.
Ive always used them on my corolla, and they keep my oil clean for about 2K miles, and then after that it gets the normal dirty color. (still a little see though when i change it at 3k)
Purolator's always leak a little for me where the rubber grommet connect to the block.

well the Fram properties you listed are true. as mentioned above try sticking to WIX (also as Napa Gold), Purolator Pureone (yellow), Mobil1 or OEM/Toyota/Denso filters.
you can actually buy a case (10-pak) of original OEM filters for $39.99 shipped from www.toyotapartsoutlet.com
or get Denso filter from amazon.com at $3.74 (with free shipping over $25).
I personally stopped buying DIY oil change deals at autozone because of their promo fram filters. Advance Autoparts or Pep Boys have same promotions, but they offer them with better filters. I usually get oil deal with Purolator Pureone filter (+$2 over white one).

When you see a good deal jump on it. Last month, Advance Auto had 5qts of Valvoline and Puralator filter for $15. I got 6 oil changes and am just keeping them around until the sale comes back or I run out.

hehe, i got it too from AAP (they have Castrol GTX now on promo with purolator), but i took it with pureone filter. right now i have enough oil for 4 oil changes (2x castrol gtx, 1x valvoline dino, and 3 qts of sealed various synthetic leftovers from past year). i also am stocked up with denso & OEM toyota filters for next 2 years or so haha!
due to some carbon buildup in my engine, i am now cutting OCI for dino down to 1.5-2k and for synthetic i'm running now 2.5k OCI. hoping to get this baby clean as new by the end of year!

Recap: 95 w/Fuel issues. WHILE removing the banjo bolt from the top of my NEW Fram fuel filter to do a pressure test; the torque applied to remove the banjo bolt caved in the FRAM filter top!!!
Pick up a WIX filter, it simply weighs twice as much and has the baffle like the OEM Denso filter. WIX all the way and never turn back. . .
I'd rather not burst into flames if it can be avoided.

The Fram Extended Guard (10,000 mile filter) is actually a pretty good filter (gold body), but it cost like $8-$10.
Stay away from the cheap orange Fram oil filters though. They are bad. They have virtually no capacity, and because of their paper elements, if they do clog, the oil pressure can punch a hole right through them. If you change your oil every 2,000 miles, these cheap orange Fram filters may be OK, but there are better ones out there for the same price.
