93 LE V6 Few questions

In 2 weeks I am being given a silver 93 LE V6 Camry (Automatic). Car runs great and the current owner had had it since it was new....can't wait Has a few problems that I will need to fix. The door locks are a little wacky and randomly lock even if the keys are in the ignition. The engine has a knock at idle (Bad valve spring maybe?), and there is some rust forming on the passenger side door.

The plan is to replace the current V6. I can't have this car off the road for long enough to get it rebuilt. Is there another engine that will fit in this car that has more potential for power without having to do heavy mods to make it work? Plan is to buy a engine and have it rebuilt with high performance and a turbo in mind. Would also love to convert it to a standard but not sure on cost for that. I can spend 5k to start to get the engine rebuilt and installed after that I can concentrate on adding bolt on mods....just need to make sure i get it rebuilt in a way to get the most out of it with a turbo etc... Going to try and make this car a sleeper

Any advice comments or links to performance parts and mods for this engine are very welcome! I am reading through the camry forum but not havin to much luck so far on finding any high performance mods of this car and engine.

Anybody know of a good mechanic in the Montreal area?

Check out the Camry FAQ page, it is stickied so easy to find, there are links to 1mz-fe turbo, and possible standard transmission swap. If you are planning on doing that, it will take several days to accomplish a swap and work out all the bugs before it is road ready. Read Chris Cash's story on this forum about engine swaps
