Have you tried turning the compressor by hand? Reach down and grab the clutch and try spinning it (obviously with the engine off). It should spin fairly easily. If not, you need new compressor.
Also, do you have a manifold gauge set? Readings from that would help tremendously. If you put too much refrigerant in, a pressure sensor may be telling the compressor not to turn on. A defective sensor will also send a false signal.
Have you checked for voltage at the plug for the clutch coil to see if it's even being tripped?
Just some things to check. I'm by no means an a/c guru, but i've seen some pretty weird things take out a/c.
Even if you do get it working, it's never a bad idea to have the system evacuated, vacuum checked and charged again. a/c systems don't have a preventive maintenance schedule, but sooner or later parts start to go bad. It's good to have early warning of any leaks, and also good to get rid of any excess moisture that may have snuck in.
