This is just a guess, but it could be a tanked blower motor.

Had this problem. The rod the connects the outlet blower motor to the damper flap came disconnected. had to take out the entire dash to fix it.

When it breaks, it reverts to defrost mode so you can still defrost your windows when its cold.

Thanks, what would the costs be to have a mechanic do this?

Honestly, even if you're only slightly mechanically inclined you can do it yourself. You have to take out the Instrument panel, radio, glovebox, lower dash, gauge cluster, then you can unbolt the dash, which is like 10 bolts, and slide it forward enough to fix it. It's really not a lot of work. Just purchase a repair manual and you should be able to do it.

It cost me about $5 for a bottle of cement glue to fix it. A mechanic would probably charge you anywhere between $500-1k to fix it.
