CSI V6 Power Steering.

Hi,

Just wondering how robust the Power Steering is on a V6 Camry CSI 1999 (Aus). Mines got 188,000km on the clock and I had the PS flushed during last major service 6 months ago and also new steering rack boots.

What I've noticed in the morning on first start is when reversing out of the drive and turning the wheel tight right during reverse, I hear a clicking type squeaking sound for a second or two which goes away then for the rest of the day and just wondered is this normal or a sign of something bad on it's way.

It only appears to sound on reversing I think, and first thing in the morning.

Cheers.
N.

Sounds like a bad powersteering belt. Might just need a little tightening.

If you still have original P/S pump, rack & pinion, high pressure hose and feeding hose - be ready them to start leaking soon. Age + mileage = leaking power steering.

... forgot... how to tell when P/S starts to leak

... Hey forgot to ask you about how to tell when any of the P/S components start to leak... will it be a puddle underneath the car in the morning scenario or something a bit more subtle ?

Cheers!
