Zipper on seatback, is it for cleaning seat back fabric

On the seat backs, there is a zipper turned inside out. Does it work to just unzip this zipper, throw the fabric in the washing machine, and reinstall?

Well, I undid the zipper, and tried to get the seat out of its, .... cover.. but got scared that I wouldn't have it all back together by Monday morning, so, I closed it back up. I think they call them hog rings, parts that keep the fabric on the seat. When I get a full day and a half ahead, Ill try again.
