Have a 2001 XLE with keyless entry.
Ignition key tumbler died. I installed a new one and the car will crank but not start. Apparently the car is programmed to recognize the old key, not the new one. I made a temp fix by removing the key sensor ring from around the tumbler, and let it hang with my old key taped to it. The car now starts.
Does anyone have a method for making the car recognize a new ignition key? Or am I stuck going back to the dealer 600 miles to the south

.
Searched the forum, couldn't turn up an answer. Thanks.
