94 camry - no spark - no clue

Started out as a timing belt job. The water pump seized and shredded the belt. Got that job done and went to turn the car on. Just cranks and cranks. plugs are getting wet, but there is no spark.

Checked the coil and distributor pickup, and only the primary on the coil was marginally out of spec. Bought a new coil. No go.

Bought a new distributor that came with another new coil, still no go. Have already checked all the fuses and they look good. When we crank the car, the tac is jumpy indicating that the ignitor is still good(?).

Does anyone have any ideas of what this could be? I even tore back into the belt to check timing, and it was still correct.

Update: We do have spark now. Took out all the plugs, cleaned them up since they were soaked. blew the compressor down into the cylinders to dry some of the gas up. Still not starting. Played with the timing on the distributor while trying to start. I'm stumped.

If the car was running before the pump locked up and you have spark and fuel, then the only thing left is compression. I bet your cam and crank timing are off. It only has to be off a tooth or 2 for the engine to not run.

Thanks for the input. You were right. There were some other markings on the cam gear that I blew off since I had run across those in the past and never used them. I guess someone marked them for a reason this time. Compared to the Toyota markings on the cam gear, they represent about 5 or 6 teeth difference. That was the whole issue.

haha, yeah, it;s normal. Many people do that on this engine thier 1st time. It;s quite a pain honestly. Glad to hear it worked out.

Is that normal then? To not have the factory markings line up. I figured someone in the past replaced the bearing cap seal and or cam gear and didn't bother lining those back up, and marked their own.
