best place to get CV AXLE

I need a CV halfshaft/ AXLE drivers side for my 4 banger 3rd gen.

The install looks straight foward stuff.

Anyone brands to stay away from and etc? Rockauto has a CARDONE brand new axle it says w/ or w/o ABS as the same unit. I dont have ABS so i think it wouldn't matter. AFAIK the only diffrence is the ABS ring is on the ABS axles. But you can run a ABS axle on a non-abs car w/o issues but not the other way around.

Best prices i've found is the rockauto NEW axle for 55.30 SHIPPED (same axle for ABS and non) or a NAPA reman for $52.80 picked up. But they have diffrent axles for ABS and non.

Or are they prone to having vibrations and etc?

There are two types of axles, bolt-on or clip-on. Make sure you select the correct type.

The new Cardone Select axles or NAPA MaxDrive (rebranded) seem to be fine. Many parts stores will give you lifetime warranty on those (not sure about NAPA now). So a local source may have an advantage if you plan to keep the car for quite a while.

However, they've started giving out lifetime warranties for rebuilt axles too, instead of the 1-year that was typical. There were complaints about the (poor) quality of the used core if you pick those.

So with a rebuilt you got OEM core but the quality may be a crapshoot; with a new axle it's not made by OEM, but it's all new. They're offered by the same company (Cardone) and both carry lifetime warranty. Your pick.

Personally, I'd just get the new axle (even if it's not made by OEM) and be done with it. Is your old axle in rebuildable shape? Otherwise you can rebuild it yourself or with a mechanically inclined friend's help. I do re-boot old axles < 200K miles using Redline CV2 synthetic grease.

i've been on the old axle for a while. it clicks and been like that for about 2 months. I rebooted last time about 4 years ago. I rather go with new/ rebuilt one.

those 2 type of axles, i thought bolt-in are v6 axles and clip in are 4 banger. Either way i have the clip in style if i remember correctly.

advance auto has them for $60 FENCO remans with lifetime. There is a 10$ off 25 coupon so about $55 after taxes... i guess its best to roll with lifetime locally.

autozone runs about $60.

I know for maxima CV axles, people have had bad luck with autozone ones and better luck with napa. i got a napa no issues.

Generally NAPA is more careful picking their suppliers from my experience. That's why for years I spec NAPA water pumps and alternators. However, many are rebranded Monroe, Raybestos, Dana Chassis, etc that sometimes are cheaper online if you know which ones. Their NAPA MaxDrive axle is rebranded Cardone Select.

Autozone has improved their lineup in recent years under the new CEO. But for example, their Atsco reman power steering gear I'm not quite sure about. I'd personally go A1 Cardone.

Don't know Fenco.

I'd go with Cardone Select from rockauto.com. Actually, I already have one of them, installed a couple years ago with no problems so far.

So this was the rebuilt with the $10 core? How do you like the quality of the rebuilt?

$11 core really doesn't matter as you get it back...

it felt and looked great off the car. no obvious binding and etc.

I had a noise on my driver side i though it was axle or brakes, it needs both my brakes should be hear today from rockauto.

I didn't drive enough to see, only 1 mile to napa to return the core and home, i forgot to pick up a cotter pin.

Nothing crazy or obviously wrong. INSTALL went smoothly on the axle's part i had to a bit of a hassle to get the axle back into the hub since i couldn't get the other axle to sit in the trans. Once i got the axle into the hub, i used the hub to align and banged the other end into the trans, this way its a nice even amount of pressure on the hub end of the axle. From the time i left to house to pick up the axle to the time i dropped off the reman, it took me 2 hours. I spend a good 10+ minutes finding my 30mm socket in the house.

I rebooted my OEM axle at 60k or so, car is at 120k so i'm expected death of car before needed a axle on this end. I dont want to do the pass axle, i know i had trouble with it last time to reboot it.
