Hi, I searched this forum and can't find an answer to my problem:
I helped a neighbour troubleshoot a bad battery, and hurray I got her car working again.
But I had to take out my battery in the process. So when I try to connect it again, the horn goes mad and the engine won't start.
Now the car - 99 Camry CE manual tranny 4 cyl - was bought used, and I never had an idea it had an alarm/imobilising system. It came with one metal key- that looks like the second master key in the owners manual. It does have power locks - activated by the key or from the switch on the door panel. There is a red LED next to the dashboard illuminator dial. Now this LED is not a push button, and only has 2 wires connected, so it it just a LED. I remember that it used to be lit after locking and leaving my car, but didn't notice if it was lit all the time or not. I always assumed it just kept the battery working or something like that. There are 2 traces of stickers on the windshield, so it could have an aftermarket alarm, I guess.
Under the dash the only switch I see is a flip-on/off metal switch that moves sideways. It's on a white panel, next to a covered round connector labeled "diagnosis".
I never had an alarm go off on this car. I frequently just opened/closed the trunk with the key while the doors were locked, and I closed the bonnet with the doors locked as well...
I think that's about it.
What is the metal switch? right now it's set towards the front of the car...
How do I reset the damn thing?
Yes, it's an aftermarket alarm. I'm sure the company will help you once you show that you're a lawful owner, for obvious reasons.
The metal switch may be a "kill switch". It's located at a place only the owner knows. Not sure if this is a part of the alarm system.

yeah the kill switch is usually a part of all aftermarket remote starters / alarms / keyless entry systems.
I never heard of original (for your model) RS3000 alarm doing the horn beep after disconnecting battery (i did it many times, nothing bad happened). you might still have it in there too, maybe simply unplugged, just a thought

4SALE: connectors for Camry Headlight Wiring Harness and ECU
Thanks John and Fenixus. I couldn't find anything about that model number and the website has some broken links. I'll try to contact them.
I was able to get the car in valet mode 2 times by mistake using the switch, but I'm unable to replicate it. As soon as I lock the doors the alarm is set again. Oh, and the interior light and the rear brake light flash too now (possibly before too).
Ok I took the bottom of the dash out and found this:
It's a shock sensor - Audiovox model as-9495-4p.
I found out that when it sets off, only the front signals flash.
I'm thinking it's an aftermarket alarm, are there any more components to it?
you found the ECU, glass break sensor and the kill switch. there is probably an antenna somewhere too (if it had a remote).
pretty much the rest of system is wiring tapped/spliced into your power locks, tachometer, horn, ignition (may include immobilizer and transponder bypass on some models - camry XLE usually), battery, brakes and lights circuits
if it pisses you off badly, try unplugging the harness connector from alarm's ECU, it will disable it.

Ok, great! Audiovox provided me with the manual and I was able to get in pilot mode. The sensor model wasn't the ECU model, they found the model number going by the s/n. Thanks guys!
