93 Camry light switch *HELP*

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and love everything I see here. I own 93 camry all stock besides G35 wheels.

I'm hoping I can get some help from you guys that has more experience on these car or been there before that could help me out.

Today it all of sudden when it gets dark and turned on the light switch, come to see there's no dash light or outside lights so I'm thinking okay I must have blew the fuse so I went to look all the fuses. They all came out good so next thing I think it has to be the switch leveler is bad? I'm seeing if anybody out here has experience that problem? The car runs and drives great like normal just no lighting at all. Open the door the dome light comes on and you hit brake light it comes on also pull the bright beam it comes on. So is it worth my time to remove the steering wheel and replace the light switch? is that going to be the problem of all? let me know what you guys think before I pull the steering apart. Thanks for looking and look forward to chat with you guys on this forum.

Alan

You may want to check if the headlights are getting enough voltage. If not, you can check the main headlight switch relay in the fuse/relay compartment under the hood. If everything is working fine the switch inside could be a problem as the tiny contact points handle all the current. Are you, by any chance, using overwatt bulbs? This may cause premature melting in the bulb sockets and/or too much corrosion in the switch lever contacts.

Thanks for the reply,

I'm not doing any upgrading on the lighting system so it's currently OEM. I haven't mess with the lights besides taking out the headlight to remove yellow oxd. and polish the lid. Same bulb just plug off and on that's all. It was working for a week then it suddenly stop working. It's not just the headlight it's the whole car rear tail light, corner light, headlight and dash illustration. It's like the light switch did not come on that's all.

You mentioned the relay I knew there's one since when I turn off the car and sometimes forget to turn off the light but it turns off automatically after few mins so you think it's possible the relay is bad? if so where is that located so I can see if it's the culprit of the problem.

Thanks for the help

there's a nob on the left near the guages that might be dimmed all the way its happened to me before loll make sure its turned to the right enough have you tried that? never mind i didnt realize it was more than just the guages, its still worth a try lol
"You may want to check if the headlights are getting enough voltage. If not, you can check the main headlight switch relay in the fuse/relay compartment under the hood." well said thats what i would do before doing anything else because that could be the problem and it easy to replace

The headlight relay is located on the fuse/relay box near the front left fender but it rarely gets busted because it's only a switch relay. Are the lights coming off at the same time?

Check all your fuses. Then try REPLACING the dimmer knob and assembly. The love to burn out.

There's no lights coming on at all.. just like regular when you turn the lights on everything comes on outside and dash lights. In my case nothing comes on as the switch is bad or something. Turn signal does work, brake light works when applied brake and high beam works when you pull the lever that's all.

I've looked at all the fuse under the dash and under the hood couldn't find any bad fuse or loose relay. Is there a specific relay I should pull out and try different one? Which relay should I be looking at... it couldn't be headlight relay since it's more than headlight?

Thanks for all the help and I'm still struggling figuring it out. I even pulled the column cover to check for loose wire and even play with it to see if it comes on nothing. I need to use test light to see if it's getting power to it. I'll let you know if I find the answer so keep on coming with some ideas.

Thanks!

Hey guys.... it looks like to be faulty ground somewhere if I'm correct. I used the test light and probe into the light switch wire and got a weak power to the switch so it's under voltage right now so it won't light up so I need to find where the ground is for it. Anybody got good wiring diagram I can look at? Thanks
