2000 XLE - front speakers won't work after jump start

I was an idiot and left my lights on all evening. I did remember before I went to bed, and shut the lights off. This morning, all the electricals (power locks, dash lights, etc) worked, but when I turned the key, the engine turned over once and then started clicking. Okay, dead battery. Friend came over and jumped the car, started up just fine.

Problem is that my front speakers have no sound coming out. Rear speakers work fine, the aftermarket stereo I have seems to be working fine, but when I set fader to Front I hear no sound. Rears sound fine. Any ideas? Is there a fuse that I blew? I did have to reset the clock/date on the stereo, could the jump have blown the stereo amp somehow? I just think it's weird that the rears work but the fronts don't, and when I've jump started my car before I've never had any stereo problems.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Hmmm . . . MrToilet, what does that say about you???? j/k. . .

I suppose the jump could have killed your after head unit. It does indeed seem odd. You tried the fader, it lost its settings, but the fader adjust didn't fix it. Do you have an external amp? If so, check it first.

You need to dig deeper. Is there any chance your door passthrough wires shorted? Do you have an ohm meter? You could measure the front speakers continuity (disconnect from head unit). Should get 4, 6, or 8 ohms. If this is true, they should play.

Also a quick test is to take a near depleted 9v battery and connect it across the SPEAKER LEADS. Not the head unit leads. Do this at your own risk, but you should see and hear the speaker cone move out (+ to +, - to -). Just quick tap and release. I've never killed a speaker doing this, but others may shake their head.

Or connect rear speaker outputs to front speakers. Do they come on. If so, the head unit is trashed or has a bad connection.

Connect the front speakers to the rear H/U outputs. If it doesn't sound. Turn it off before you kill the h/u.

Weird update. So my stereo started randomly working again like normal...for a day. Next morning I go out, start it up....only rear speakers sound again. Frustration.

Next step is to check wiring, I guess? I really don't want to take the head unit out, etc, but I suppose I have to at this point.

Roll into a stereo shop, they'll check it for next to nothing. If you try it yourself its pretty easy. Although I've never played with a 2000. . . but pull up on the bezel from the bottom, and tilt it free. Four screws and the unit pulls out.

Could just be loose wire or a bad crimp job.

Depending on the deck, it could have h/u wires crimped to an general adapter mating the car harness to a plug. OR it could be direct fit with no splices.

Eitherway, any wiring job on a car should be able to withstand pulling on the wires and not seperate. Give them a gentle tug and see if they come free.

Have some crimp connectors handy though!

Oh I'm not worried about the tool work, I replaced the stock head unit myself, I just don't want to have to tear it all apart and put it back together, . I have the JBL 6-speaker sound system in the car, it really wasn't too bad once I got the right wiring harness. One question I have though - and it's probably a dumb one, but with the JBL system, is there a separate amp, or is the system powered from the head unit? Thanks.
