Lightbulb New car, What should I check for?

Well as some of you know, I just picked up the Camry. It seems to be running fine but I'm unaware of how the old owners treated it. What should I check it over for? How can I do a cheap tune up? What consists of a tune up?

My buddy who's pretty good with cars (mainly American) is coming by tomorrow to hangout, I'll tell him to check out the car. What should I have him check for?

Tune Up:
1: Plugs
2: Wires
3: Distrubutor cap
4: Rotor

Has the Timing Belt ever been done?

I'd also replace the fuel filter (engine bay, drivers side, screwed onto the frame rail), dail and fill on the tranny fluid (if needed), and drain and fill on the coolant (if needed).

my big thing with used cars are:

Hoses- search around and see if you find any that are brittle/dry/cracked.

Fluids- As long as they're the proper color and not chocolate milk status.

The Usual others that ASG mentioned.

good Luck!

Change the oil, coolant, and drop the transmission pan and clean that out. Also change the differential fluid.

Changing fluids should be the first thing you do, its also the cheapest/easiest.

+1 on changign the rad. hoses when you have the coolant drained.
