hardwiring in my 96

I have a V6 camry and you fellow v6 owners probably know what I mean when I say i wanted to do something with that little pocket below the arm rest where the E-brake is on the 4 pot. It's completely useless since stuff always falls out of it but I decided I'd make an ipod dock there. I did that...now I can't figure out where I can hardwire this. I checked out the fuse box to the left of the steering wheel and I found that one of the fuses doesn't power anything so I guess I could do it here but is there any place else closer to the arm rest that could be easier to tap into? I'm a complete novice with wiring so I appologize if this is a stupid question.

Maybe tap into the power source for the factory amp below the passenger seat? Just putting it out there Neat idea thought! Pretty creative! I'm assuming you have premium sound (and still use factory headunit) since you have a V6 XLE?

Tap into the 12 volt positive power wire for the headunit and run it down to where you need it. Ground to chassis.

i don't have a ipod so im not sure if the cable used for charging / connection to the HU is the same but....

u want to "hook up" or "wire in" the charge cable / data to your HU?
like a usb cable or something?

i would double check on the recommended voltage to power/charge the ipod
and
i would guess the data cable would connect straight from the ipod to the HU and no "wiring" would be needed

also i would do as LynchburgCSI said and get power from HU... but i dont think u would need 12v..

i would think more along the lines of 5v should be enough to power/charge the ipod.. like "remote wire" or "antenna"

either way, once you have selected the wires being used be sure to add a fuse and use proper electrical terminals and connectors to finish up the job.

I'm sorry for not being totally clear. Like I said I'm a total novice to wiring stuff

Lynchburg- PERFECT! I didn't even think of that! Thank you! Since the charger is really originally a regular car charger it'll just convert it to 5 volts or whatever it is right? I'll just keep this up if anyone has any other suggestions.

Important notes

-I do NOT have premium sound...yes I'm surprised too.

-I have an aftermarket headunit but that doesn't really matter since...

-This dock is ONLY for charging, I have an auxillary cord for connecting it to the dock

-My dock has a regular iphone car charger connected to it which is why...

-I went to pep boys and got a female cigarette lighter adapter that has a power wire and ground wire coming out of it which are the leads im trying to hardwire

If anyones interested this is what my final product looks like...Not a very good job I know but it turned out to be a little harder than i thought working with fiberglass in a piece like this

Car's electrical system runs at 12volts. All you need to do it sounds like is take the female cig lighter and wire that up right? Cig lighters.... center wire will run to your 12v+ and the outside wire to ground.
