Question Transmission issue (stumped)

Hello been awhile since i've posted but a problem has came up on my camry and im at a loss. 3 days ago i was driving down the road going 65 when out of nowhere i lose the gauges and a/c. well a "mechanic" told me it was a alternator so i replace that and the 10Amp gauge fuse that blew and it didnt work so i drive 25 miles back home with no windows,a/c gauges and even worse no overdrive. Well get to working on it i got a code puller and it pulls up a p1780 code which is a speed sensor code i clean the sensor it has some kind of oil in it and the pigtail let em dry and installed it back on. go for a drive and it decides to blow the fuse again. Got it fixed all is well but now my speedometer doesnt work at all even have a spare sensor and it doesnt work either and for some reason the "2" shift light is lit and wont go away checked the NSS and it good and it only goes to 2nd gear and wont go to 3rd or o/d. I reset the codes and left the battery unplugged and still have problems. Help would be greatly appreciated.

It's a 1996 camry with a 2.2 4cyl and 207K auto

Had a problem similar to yours on my '98 Camry. Gauges quit and so did the power windows. Code reader said it was a speed sensor. Turns out it was the wiring leading to the lights (tail, reverse, and license plate) that are mounted on the trunk lid. The wires are run along the hinge brackets and after getting bent back and forth enough times by the trunk being opened and closed, they break and make contact with each other, blowing fuses. Open up the plastic conduit in that area and check the wires inside.

Sounds like this not an unusual problem.

^^ +1

Sure sounds like other wires are damaged in this incident.

What/where did the short occur that blew this fuse repeatedly? You best get that resolved correctly before more wires are burned or jeopardized.
