My car has about 204k. Ive been wondering if i am able to go with a full synthetic or synthetic blend or am i better off going with a good conventional oil? i currently have some quaker state with slick 50 for my next oil change im gonna do in the next day or two.

IF you switch to synth at this point, you could start noticing some leaks (I think). I would stick with the dino.

Why do you want to switch?

Have you been under the valve cover recently (best way to check for sludge)? Generally, I wouldn't switch to synth on an old engine unless you're having sludging problems, and even then might just switch to a quality high-detergent dino (such as Castrol GTX) with shorter oil change intervals.

Personally, I switched to running synth on mine (I tend to slop my OCIs, and my '95 5S-FE tends to sludge dino), but I'm also having to replace drippy oil seals as I get around to them....

I would stick with conventional, there arent any benefits to running synthetic in an older engine.

It will most likely just start leaking and burning oil faster.

As above, if you're having sludge problems, synthetic would do good. That is if you're seals have already been replaced.

IMO a good conventional oil and a shorter oil change interval would be better. However, if you want to try a blend check out the Motorcraft oils at WalMart. Autozone also has Castrol blends with a Bosch filter on sale. Again, I'd still go with a shorter interval instead of trying to lengthen it.
