2000 Camry Rebuild

Hello all. This is my first post. I have a 2000 Camry I4 auto 2.2 I'm rebuilding and have run into a problem. All is ready to go except we can't seem to find a rubber iece to the fuel injectors. Our local dealership kept giving us a different part, called an insulator. It seals the injector into the head and looks like a grommet. Here's a pic to show you what I mean.

there are 2 different types of fuel injectors for 2000 camry i4 2.2L depending on emissions compliance (federal vs california). check the sticker under hood (or location of upstream o2 sensor in exhaust manifold heatshield - middle = calif, bottom right = fedral), it will say California emission blah blah if that's the one, if not then it's federal.
most likely dealer was giving you the other grommet.

california injectors use additional o-rings and different grommets. here is a pic of what i'm talking about.

hope it helps.

just noticed it was your first post

welcome to forums!

Thank you very much. Many have laughed at me for rebuilding an I4 Camry, but its gone smoothly up until this point. I'll have to look tomorrow.
Yeah, appreciate the welcome! Total Toyota loyalist here. This one has outlasted every relationship I've every had (230k) and given me far less grief to boot. She's worth reviving.

dumb me. since you have fuel injectors out already, so to make it easier for you here are part numbers for federal and california units, check them it should be printed on the side (if they are Denso):

numbers for automatic tranny, non-japan made
a) federal
23209-74100

b) california
23209-74140

you can see full parts listing after giving this website your car's VIN number:
www.toyodiy.com/parts

once you confirm the right one you will be able to see part numbers of grommets and o-rings as well.

The numbers printed on the side of the injector read 23250-74100. I'm not sure how to use the parts reference on that site. In bold, in front of the part name is the first number, then a list of different numbers for cali, japan... So, does that mean I have the federal? I have tried with little success to find pictures of my injectors.
Anybody got a clue?

yes, your injector seems to be the federal specs. confirm location of upstream oxygen sensor in exhaust manifold heat shield - is it down there at the bottom of shield, on the passenger side ? if yes then your ride is federal specs.

you can always call the dealer up, ask the Parts Counter and give them VIN over the phone, they should be able to tell you exactly if your injector part number is for federal or california emissions specs and from there give you part numbers of o-rings and grommets for it. you might wanna call a different dealer than you visited before.
