5 codes at once?!

Hey guys.

My knock sensor circuit was screwed from day one, so I replaced the sensor and "fixed" a bad connector last night and the CEL went away for about 30 minutes. Then I was driving last night and it came back on. I went to advance to get the code read and all of the sudden there's five codes....

P0325 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit.
P0120 Throttle Pedal Sensor Switch "A" Circuit.
P0115 Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit.
P0110 Intake Air Temperature Circuit.
P0105 Manifold Absolute Pressure Circuit.

Now. The only code that was on yesterday BEFORE I "fixed" the wiring was P0325 for the knock sensor...

Did I fry my wiring harness somehow? All the other four codes are sensors...

I'm out of ideas and have been dicking around with this all day today and last night. I really dont want to pay someone else to fix it, but I will if I have to. I just wanted to see if anyone here had some insight first.

Could be, how did you "fix" the bad connector?

have you checked the connectors at ECU ? it looks like one of them got loose and right now is not making any contact at all.

make sure all of them sit in there firmly and then reset the ECU or erase codes with obd2 and see if they come back after a few engine restarts and some driving.

Well I cut the old connector off and spliced a new one in.

But I did check out the ECU, and unplugged the middle connector to test it. But I might have not pushed it in all the way. I did erase the codes at advance and not even 50 yards later it came back on.

So i figured out that the butt connectors I used to attach the new connector will not work for this application. I re-connected the connector by solder this time and voila, all codes went away, car drives much much much better now. It seems a lot faster too without the timing being max retarded.

grats

so butt connectors were not making proper contact ? only soldering helped? maybe you didn't tighten them well enough ? i doubt

glad you solved it, interesting that no connection to knock sensor caused such a havoc in ecu electrics ...

A buddy of mine who works for AAA helped me catch it. He said butt connectors don't offer the right amount of resistance, or something.

But he said this poor connection would cause a slew of other electrical problems and fixing the connection would fix everything else, and he was right! It's just hard to work on the harness when it's on the car... no room to work, let alone have enough room for wire cutters, strippers, soldering iron and a roll of solder and then electrical tape!

Well guys,

CEL came back on...

at a loss at this point. Don't have a scanner so I can't see what code or codes I've got.

geeez, bro seems like you are in same deep shit I've been since a while ... troubleshooting car electrical wiring is crazy when something goes wrong.

it seems your code is one of those requiring 2 trip logic, that's why it didn't pop up at once, probably it's been pending. you should get a handy actron scanner or PC laptop-obd2 setup handy to keep an eye on it...

I went to walmart to pick up a scanner but it was $100 and I figured that tomorrow I can just get it read for free at advance and then erase it, then if it comes back bring it somewhere and let someone else deal with it. For real this time though.

Is there a cord that could just plug into my laptop and then into my car? Like a USB scanner? That'd be bitchin.

yes, check this thread:
CEL Light On. OBDII Scanner or Laptop

i'm using using a tiny Lenovo netbook with usb cable to obd2 connector in car. for software i use sloppy digitmoto V (full licensed version needed for full live sensors reading access though).

i bought cable from hong kong at $22 shipped (2 weeks waiting though) from here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Car-S...motiveQ5fTools

for simple code reading and erasin you can use free wOBD software, it does the trick.

If all of the connectors are connected, then you probably knocked a ground off somewhere. All of those sensors use a common ground in the harness junction block.

You might need to go ground hunting.

Those sensors use ECU ground E2 in the 2001 EWD.

Yeah I just bought a cable on eBay for like $20. It's also coming from Hong Kong. I hope it works!

once you get it, PM me if you need help with installing drivers and getting it to work. it does not always want to start working initially, but with proper drivers it will run like a champ $100 scanner
