Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
It's humiliating to be asking this question, but I haven't had the chance to revert to my halogens yet... I'll try to get them out tommorow just cause now I have to I litterally JUST stepped in from my amplifier install and was wondering: Is it alright if you were to run an amplifier and an HID kit, both off the positive terminal of the battery? Dunno, I feel like the terminal would melt or something Any input?
EDIT: Also, let me ask you guys this since I'm on the topic of the amplifier, I haven't had the chance to fine tune the amp yet, but I seem to be getting Bass only on the front, sound + bass on the rear. Is that normal, or did I wire something wrong???

It should be fine...but with the car running, amp on, and lights on, check the voltage at the battery. I'd be more concerned about your alternator handling it but I doubt it would cause a problem.

Hmm I'll take the ohmeter at the battery tommorow morning, I'm assuming above 11-12V should be fine? Should I test alternator output as well?
Also, I'm really concerned about the second part: I'm really only getting Bass in the front. I checked the wiring and everything is alright, should I bridge the speaker connections? The amp is a 4 channel amp...
EDIT: Ah sorry you said at the battery

depends on how many watts your amp is pushing..the only main problem i can see is the HID start-ups..which is pretty high if i can remember correctly. Ive been running my HIDs + 200w AMP for about a year now and its fine. I was pushing a 1000w amp befoer, but leme tell you first hand that its a bad combo if your wiring, battery, alternator is stock.

The amp itself (4 channel) is rated at 111W RMS per channel, but my speakers are 35W RMS in the front, and the rears are rated at 30W RMS. So I assume that's how much they are drawing... I re-wired all new 16 gauge speaker wire throughout the car and wired some 8 gauge power wire and ground wire. The battery is not stock, it's an older (7 years) Die Hard Gold.... Pretty much, the only thing that's stock, really, is the alternator...
I guess my best option would be to take out the HID kit altogether
Any advice on solving my tuning issues Flip?

That should be just fine. I am running HIDs with a 400w RMS amp for about 9 months now with now low voltage or dead batteries.
Thanks! That's reassuring... I just did all of the final audio adjustments on the amplifier. I realized I'm also an idiot I figured out where I went wrong:
1. I switched the Rear RCA's with the Front RCA's at the amplifier
2. I had the Low Pass Filter on the highest setting for the rear at my headunit So all it was sending was the Bass Total dumba$$ mistake there!
So now everything is in full functioning order, I adjusted it to sound great with no distortion at a bit above the max volume where I would set it I just need to tuck away my RCA wires and I'm golden Thanks for the input and reassurance everyone

Good job on trouble shooting the issue. Sometimes it's the small stuff we miss that cause the biggest headaches.
Thanks Too true!! This is also my first amplifier install, and considering all of the hurdles I had to go thru in the wiring, it's surprising the wiring was perfect on first fire up! It's really neat that it was just a settings issue And now, I am super proud of myself, and it makes it all that much more enjoyable to listen to it

That's reassuring, thanks for the input I'm actually about to put in some 60W RMS Infinity Reference 6022i in the front tommorow, so that is comforting

Well guys I removed the HID kit last night Thanks for the input and helping me bridge and operate my car in the time I had an amp and an HID kit together

I hope you're only removing the HID kit because of "improper" light output and not power draw.
Per side, my HID retrofit draws 13A only briefly on power up. Once it settles down it draws less than 4A, 1/3 less than halogen bulbs. So electically it should be easier on your car. Now I used the good stuff - big Philips 35w ballasts and FX projectors. Got my numbers through a DC-capable clamp meter.
Bottom line - don't hit bass while turning on the HID and you'll be fine.

That's exactly why I pulled it out actually I don't want to blind people. I just threw back in ye ol' Sylvania Silverstar Ultras I mean, you'll be able to see the system on Saturday I really want to have a chat with you about doing a retrofit on my car
