What is this gunk? (IAC Valve)

I removed the throttle body today for some deep cleaning. The four screws holding the IAC valve onto the TB were extremely soft. I removed two, but the two others are bit ruined now. Getting those two screws removed will have to be a future project...

I removed the black connector part that's on the IAC valve. There was no gasket for it, but there was some sticky gunk. It didn't look like silicone, because silicone doesn't stay sticky after it dries (at least not that I've seen). Any idea what this stuff was?

The only stuff I know of that matches your description is 3M Strip-Calk.

I've used a bunch of that stuff on my 65 Mustang. I don't know, it could be something else.

Next time try a moderate knock with a hammer to the bolts (or through a screwdriver) first.

Is that the rotating part? What does it look like inside? I wonder if regular RTV will do?

Maybe it was dried up grease?... That stuff Toyota puts in a lot of the electrical connectors to keep things from corroding.

I don't think it was "3M Strip-Calk." It was very thin strands of white (some black, it was dirty) sticky stuff. I've never seen anything like that before. The "3M Strip-Calk" is the type of stuff used to seal the plate under the rear seat for the fuel pump, so I'm familiar with it. Although... I suppose it could be something like that. It just doesn't look anything like it because it was super thin. When I was pulling the black thing off, it was stretching like snot.

Isn't RTV just silicone? That's why I mentioned it didn't look like silicone because that stuff dries.

I don't think it was dried up grease because it wasn't dry. It was very soft. I could have rubbed it off easily...

If I had my camera with me I would have taken a photo. I was just hoping someone here has taken off that part before and might be familiar with it.

Next time I have a go at that IAC valve, I'll make sure the camera is with me.

Kinda like plumber's putty? I was just wondering if without it people can just substitute RTV.

I noticed this when removing my IAC to clean also. It looks like some kind of dielectric sealant. Mine was clear, some carbon residue may have leaked into yours. I just reassembled it without any problem yet.

Not sure this advice is applicable to the subject, but it would seem there is a lubricant in the IAC...

Remove the TB then remove the IAC (get new gaskets for both). Clean the IAC and use a lithium soap based grease (lithium based moly works fine) on the one moving part of the IAC to ensure smooth movement. It's basically just a rotary "window shutter" type valve. Make sure it has a good coating on the surface. It should be nearly closed.
