3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Basically, I'm modifying my mom's old 1997 Camry LE that she passed down to me (she just bought a 2009 Camry, go figure), and I'm starting with the appearance.
I'm okay when it comes to cars in general, but when it comes to stuff like headlights and tail lights.. I have no idea what to look for.
I'm wanting HID lights, but I don't want it blinding people as I'm driving. I have no clue what "retrofitting" is. I don't quite know the difference between halo lights or projectors.
If anyone could help me out with this, that would be great. I'm a quick learner.
Also, what price range am I gonna be looking at? What type of kits or whatever would I need? Where can I find the stuff?
Don't worry, I won't be installing these myself.
AND nothing illegal please! lol. Just looking for a quick modification... Perhaps chrome headlights or something would help!

just search around to find out what retrofiting is...
projector- gives a nice cut-off(this is how you will not blind people)
halos- just rings around the projector that are lit with LED's. (just for looks)
you will needa set of headlights that have clear lenses.
However, are halo's separate bulbs that go into the headlights? If so, do I have to buy a separate headlight housing for them? I'm so confused.
And whats the difference between the stock headlights and the links you have posted?
I'm sorry, such a newbie at this. :S
i was a newbie about 2 months ago too... so its all good
all halos are , are blind rods with LED's in them. all you do is glue/caulk/ or tape them to the projector.the stock headligths are frosted. you need clear.

headlights: you can throw on some HIDs on there, the headlights themselves have decent cut-off lines and if you aim them down a little- it'll be very rare that you'll be blinding people. I've had HIDs in my regular housing for 3 years now and i've been high beamed twice. - SOME are totally against that, and i respect their opinion too! BTW, HIDs in a NON-HID car's illegal. LOL! And just install it yrself with a friend, its not worth the $40bux they're charging to install. good luck!
Okayyyyyy... I've done more research, and what I'm actually looking for are halo projector headlights, I guess. I'd rather not make it myself and just buy it, so any suggestions?
FYI...for everyone lookin for projector headlights...(w/o making them) here is the site. looks like. good quality stuff. (from that guy on the youtube videos) http://www.advancedlites.com/index.php it says they use the good projectors!! RX300 , FX-35(used for the gen 4 camrys) projectors
looks like a great site.

that's the price of custom made retrofit when a pro does the job using their parts source (checked in other thread).
unless you have a knowledgable friend who can handle the labor cheap and get used parts (e.g. used originals off ebay) to do it (and he knows how to match them up), then it may break your wallet
sole reason why i ride with good HID conversion kit (have clear lens though so not much glare).

that's the problem. fully legal and properly done retrofit is damn expensive. if you saw retrofitted projectors then either someone paid a ton for it to get it done right or they had a skill & knowledge to do it themselves (or a friend did it for them).
