3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
so this will be split in to 2 post. post 1 will be the aux in and post 2 will be the pre-outs for the amp
now this is for the single DIN non premium unit easy way to know is it only drives the 4 point stereo
now this will hijack the tape function so you will need to hollow out a tape to trick the deck in to playing, also this DOESN'T kill the tape deck functions
so take your hu out
flip it over and remove the bottom panel
those are the locations where were going to be working
now find the pin labeled l.out and r. out the top and 3rd pin
easy as can be one wire to left and the other to right
now per directions on your 3.5mm head phone adapter solder the respective wire to the right pin and ground to chassy dont use pin 2 (gnd) on the inside as it well no idea
This is great! My tape decks spits out the MP3/Tape adapter, so I am using an FM transmitter (static).
Do you think the "pins" or connection points going to be the same on a '98 model 4Runner head unit? The size and connector were a direct fit going from a 4Runner to the Camry, so I am hoping when I open it up it should be the same.
Thank you!
Nothin like diggin in and get'nr done! Nice little DIY mod there!
Take it or leave it, but here are a couple of tips:
1) use of 20 to 24 gauge multistrand wire.
2) no clean lead solder (unless device is marked "Pb or lead free (ROHOS).
3) route wires away from 12v power sources to reduce transient noise.
If you find noise present, use of a small ferrite bead for noise reduction on the pre-amp may be needed or a sheilded cable (this couldn't hurt the output either). I'd guess if the runs are short, it won't matter tho, but using a sheilded cable like a network cable, or a computer data cable (might be what you have up there) with a shielded housing which is grounded to the chassis could be helpful too!
let us know how it goes!

lol i did ue cat5 to run the out out to my amp but i am noticing a little feed back when i use my cell hooked in to the charger so i might get a ferrite bead to help with that.

They're tapped into line-level outputs, so they would be hooked up to a power amplifier's inputs.
Thanks, can you please tell how to regconize which point to weld which line please, i.e. fl fr rl rr goes where, what are the letter/sign at the other end (with pictures if possible)
Look closely at that last pic; there are markngs on the board identifying each channel.

Thanks BMR. This site is really great, I think it can be the best forum for Toyota users.
Now I have been able to remove my Camry audio and found out that mine is a bit different. It is also Fujitsuten but a different version. Please refer to the pictures below.
Can you please tell me which line to weld where on my audio for the aux input and the pre out for the amp. I don't know about electronics things at all and I will need to ask someone to weld it for me so please be as specific as possible so that I can do it.
