3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hm. Well, if it's that simple(ish), chris, I think I'm gonna give it a shot (once my shift cable is replaced).
Agreed shadezz, black would look pretty awesome for yours (and mine, especially since it's the only color I'd be able to pull off with a beige interior).
Guess this is one more "summer project" hehe

Shoot me a PM, I'll see what I can do
It LOOKS simple. Just a piece of plastic with a dremel or soldering iron taken to it. You just need to make sure you have the lines going to the right places.
That's not a bad idea. If i'm gonna do that, I will have to use the celica short shifter to make it more customized.

Real simple and just chop up some ABS plastic and there you go. Just make sure it's in the right places...
It would be so much cleaner if they custom made it to replace the existing trim panel, instead of placing the one on top.
Yeah, you would really need an ssk to compliment it. I'd imagine a gated shifter with stock throw would look really awkward.
But I'd say go for it. Definitely make it look a bit more exotic. Kind of an old school Ferrari/ Aston Martin look.

my thoughts exactly; my friend's dad has an old Testarossa (lucky bastard), brought it to the college car show last year, it's what gave me the idea
I was thinking, if I do it, I want a stainless/brushed finish, and a wood-grain shift knob
SSK, I dunno; I'd need to buy a Gen 4 housing, and an Gen-4 solara short-shifter... but whatevs; I can see how it looks with the stock shift, and work it out from there.
also, DEFINITELY not dropping it on top like that; planning to mount from below the console so it sits flush with the surface.

I've been wanting to do this. But I lack a drill press, acrylic sheets and a manual tranny.

I would recommend wrapping the dash and console in leather. Do all the trim in gloss black, black woodgrain, or cf/cube trim. That would include the shift gate trim as well. That would just about complete the look.
piff he do what i did just lay the manual down in front of him and pretend he using it ....... well ...... i had the car too you know ......... in my defense everyone who held the trd blower sat there holding it daydreamin about it
