My A/C isn't working and the compressor is making some awful noise. The compressor has been making noise for a while now. I would like to know if anyone has an idea how much I might spend to replace the compressor, seals, etc.
around $600 for a compressor swap with a remanufactured unit, not sure it includes seals and so on but i believe so. i think this quote (a very old one) also included gas & oil re-charge after swap.

Well, I ran the car by a shop to see if he could give me an estimate. He started to put one pound of 134 and switched on the compressor, it started spraying out of the condenser! I have decided to R & R the condenser and dryer, then see if the system will hold vacuum. I think I might be changing multiple items for a while.
so mechanic replaced a leaky condenser and drier tank (which is good too) ? let us know if compressor runs quiet now after checking vacuum & re-charging system. sounds good.
though i have to say i ran into same problem on my old Buick V6 some time ago (leaky condenser) and after replacement it worked great for 2-3 more years, then compressor's electromagnetic clutch died (so far seems so) hehe. a/c systems are so fragile ...

He didn't change anything, just put some refrigerant in it. I am going to replace the condenser/dryer next week myself. Then, take it back to him to pull vacuum to see if it leaks.
By the way, what sort of process am I looking at to take out the condenser?
Well, I got the condenser out this afternoon. It wasn't too bad actually. I pulled both fans (Drivers side first), the short "snorkel" for the intake, relay box on the drivers side of the radiator, the electrical connectors from the fans, and pushed the radiator back just enough to get the condenser out. I'll let you know how the installation goes.
You had better look up how much oil you need to put in the system to replace that lost by putting in a new condensor and receiver/dryer. I would also look at adding a bit more as there may have been additional lost because of this leak. Calculating how much oil to add is a bit of a guessing game, so let the pro handle this.

I am going to put the new one and take it back to the shop to put a vacuum on it to see if is leaking from anywhere else. If it's not, I'll have him refill it.

I installed the new condenser earlier, it took me 30-45 minutes maybe. I was really surprised that it lined up, and it came with the mounting brackets and dryer. I just installed everthing in the reverse order. Pretty simple concept right?
