P/S Fluid Color

94' Camry V6
The power steering fluid looks clear when you pull it out of the container and dab it on a piece of paper but looks dark from the side of the container (also the container is yellowing =( ). Is this normal?? Their is no difference in steering that I feel.

normal store bought p/s fluid is clear, what comes loaded in the car from the dealer is dexron III (red) so thats your reason it's just mixing you wount notice a difference unless you flush the system.

you can flush the p/s system easily with like $12 parts from Home Depot and using Castrol Synthetic Blend ATF (Import Multi Vehicle) <- good stuff!

for the second question i suggest starting new thread to keep forums neat & clean

Any Dexron III type fluid is good. I wouldn't use Dexron VI in these, IMO it's too thin. There are plenty of good DIII type fluids out there, one is the Castrol Import Multi-vehcle ATF mentioned (synthetic blend). Another is the Walmart SuperTech Mercon-V that's suitable for DIII too. It has better shear stability than dino DIII. So I'd at least use this in the PS system if not the Castrol syn-blend. The price points of these two fluids are great. No sense going $8-9 for Mobil-1 IMO.
