XM Commander

Hey,

Looking for some help from anyone here...I got a gen 4 camry and a xm commander that I got for free. I'm trying to get it installed but I'm not entirely sure how to wire this thing up to receive power. Would I cut the wires from the 12V Cig adapter (there's two in the gen 4, and I mean the one at the very bottom) and just wire both yellow and red to the Cig and ground black?

The link below has a diagram of the wiring for it:
http://www.xm411.com/phpbb/viewtopic...06ed9a21c3b8f8

I'm just not sure where to find the necessary wires in my car. I'd really appreciate any help!

The ACC power (RED) wire is going to need to go to a wire in your ignition harness under the steering wheel. What year is your camry? Then I can tell you which color wire to tap into and where it is. The 12+ (YELLOW) is going to need to either go to the battery or you can run it with the red wire and tap into a 12+ constant at the ignition harness. The ground (BLACK) can go to a chassis ground. I know theres a good one on the left side of the console on the gen 3. The antenna is self explanatory. Let me know about that year.

You can just use the stock stereo harness for all that mess.

its a gen 4 or 1999 camry. these wires do I just cut and then use some crimp tools to put the wire together? I just need some help getting power and then I'm good and I asked my local audio shop to do this but they want $40. I do appreciate the help..

Chris, good point. the12volt.com has diagrams. Matt, yes thats basically all you'll need to do. I'd HIGHLY recommend soldering them then heat shrink wrapping them for strength. Positaps are also a good option. Google them.

I already installed a pioneer unit in my car, so would I just again cut the yellow and red wires and then solder both the XM and pioneer wires to the radio harness??

actually, I guess it would be....

Constant 12V+ Blue/Yellow
Switched 12V+ Gray

that I would hook up the XM wires too? According to the link you gave me.

Hook up the XM like you would hook up another stereo. So basically just splice it in with your pioneer unit.

I dunno if I should make a new thread for this or not, but I left the doors open the whole time I was working on this for over 1hr and when I finished for the night I notices the dome light is dead. Checked fuses and tried replacing bulb with spare but still nothing. Everything works fine after this little install execpt the dome....any thoughts?
