hey guy,
so I opened up my dash to do the red needle mod, the problem is after I was done the tachometer didn't work, got one from the yard...didnt work....got another one with the back cover....didn't work, so is there a fuse for these or something? hopefully its fixable does anyone have any idea on what the problem could be?
lol, its the mod in the diy section where you open the cluster and pain the needles ( **DIY** Colouring The Needles on Camry GEN4 **56K WARNING** ), but I went one step further and took the tachometer, the speedometer, the temp, and the fuel guage out and painted them seperately (easier the cover and stuff)
^ did you took the needle out ? Just the RPM needle doesn't work or nothing work at all ?
well the first time i took the needle out, it didn't work, so got one tachimeter from the yard...didnt work, then got 2 more just in case... does not work . And ya its only the rpm needle, my speedometer (i didn't take the needle out of this one!!!) and the others all work fine. like the needle does not move one tiny bit, today though I pulled the needle over the stopper (one from the yard) turned on the engine, it went up a bit but does not move when i press on the gas...

Zviator is just mad because he sold a member dry rotted tires as "in good shape." Sounds like your problem isn't in the gauge cluster. Wait for someone else to chime in.

Obviously you made sure the needle is not dragging on the surface making physical contact? It has no real power to move that needle but it sounds like its electrical and you need to determine which wires and connectors run the tach and look for broken wires, bad terminals where the connector fits to the cluster.
Likely one of the pins is not connecting to the gauge cluster. Its marked sorta so look it over close! Or get a schematic for it.

i have the same problem except i have not attempted to modify my cluster in any way. Thought it might be a speed sensor but the transmission shifts fine so I dont think that is the problem... If i am reading this correctly 73sport is on the right track with a connection problem. As that would be the only thing that has changed in the car between the swapping of the clusters. Inspect the pins that feed into the plugs and look for any of them that may have gotten pushed out. I see this a lot when working on older cars as the plastics sometimes get brittle and it does not hold the pin in as well anymore.
