3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hello guys, here's the skinny. A while back my lil brother took the family car when he wasn't supposed to and blew the engine. After a few months, I found an engine on Craigslist that was about the same (5sfe). It was only the block and head, so I have to switch everything over to the other block. While switching everything, I find that the fuel injectors are too small for the new engine! So I guess my question is, is there a difference in fuel injector size between years? My car is a 93 camry 4 cylinder for reference. And I have no idea how to check the year of the 5sfe I bought.

Gen 1 5SFEs use a 210cc injector (yellow tops)
Gen 2 5SFEs use a 220cc injector (dark green tops)
Gen 2 CA 5SFEs use an air assisted 250cc injector (light green tops; 1994-1996)
3SFEs use a 190cc injector (blue tops)

Thank you, that's a big step forward. Now, does anyone know how I can find out which gen 5sfe I have? I had no idea there were 3 different subcategories of the 5sfe

Well, first off, what color injectors do you have?
Secondly, a Gen 1 5SFE has a different valve cover. Your 93 uses spark plug wires with square boots (Gen 2). The Gen 1 uses spark plug wires with round boots and are not recessed.

As I recall my injectors from the 93 are dark green. So I'm guessing I'm gonna have to get the light green, 250cc CA injectors. Am I gonna have to get the fuel rail for them too? Seeing As how you said they're air-controlled or something like that...
Lets find out what year its from first:
There should be casting number on the block and a casting number on the head to determine what year the parts are.
Not being an I4 owner, you need input from others as to where these are.
And IF they are compatable, why don't you grab an intake gasket and swap the intake manifold off the blown engine to the replacement engine and use your existing injectors?
Problem solved if the parts are interchangable.

Alright I got the number off the block. After the 5S, the numbers are 0222518. I can't find the numbers on the head.
The injectors go on the head, not the intake manifold. I would've done that a looong time ago if it could be done that way but there's no way around these Damn injectors.
on my 97 camry, it has the plate on the block that has 17 digit numbers same VIN number. That makes the 10th digit let us know what year. or you can get to the link http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/q.html and put the 17 digit number you find on the block and get the part number exactly. good luck

SO I just went to check the number on the block. Looks like they tore the freaking plate that had the 17-digit number on it..
