99 camry engine swap

Hi, i have a 5spd 99 camry with 122k miles. The clutch has started slipping and it is pretty much un drivable. I looked in my Haynes Repair manual and saw that its ALOT of work to replace the clutch. so now im thinking about replacing the entire engine and tranny since it isnt much more work and since my engine is mysteriously going through a qt of oil every 1000 miles and im afraid it is something serious that could come up later. And, since the 5sfe is hard to find used, what other engines could i drop in my baby with minimal work?

Just take your engine out and replace all the seals.

Then you've got enough room to do the clutch job easily. Then slap it back in the car. Shouldn't take more than a day.

the way how the manual wanted to do it is take out almost the entire bottom frame disconect the transaxle and drop the tranny. your saying to pull the engine from the top and there will be room after that?

I'm saying pull the engine AND trans from the top, that way you've got ample room to replace all seals on the engine to stop your leak. And Tons of space to do your clutch.

you dont have to pull the engine, you can replace the clutch by just seperating the two, in the engine bay, no need to do all thst work, theres plenty of room, just slide the tranny over ............
