changed out my driverside CV Axle tofday and it puked fluid all over the driveway
Now - as it is a 5 spd manual - wher do I fill this back up and what type of fluid is required
differential fill plug is on the back of differential (firewall side). there is tight access as you will have axles and exhaust pipe on the way from bottom. 3/8'' ratchet should fit in there.
you will need either 17mm socket or 10mm hex bit to open it up. hard access makes it impossible to use breaker bars or so, so get some PB blaster to break it free or you risk stripping it.
it takes same fluid type as the tranny, so any ATF will do (Castrol Import Multi-Vehicle Synthetic Blend, Mercon V, Dexron III, etc.).

this is a standard tranny
- so are your references correct- I see your auto tranny post -
Will I find the plug easily
and I will loosen the fill one first as mentioned in other threads
I was surprised at how much fluid actuall came out
What will be the consequence of driving it whil low /out of diff fluid - how far would it take to acutally do damage ?
idk man, i am referring to 5S-FE auto tranny. no idea about manual tranny.
my differential takes 1.7qts of ATF (drain & refill).
you cannot drive it at all with empty differential as you will damage things with no lubrication. same about very low level, don't drive it until you refill it.

mine states this for manual tranny (5s-fe), oil type: gear oil API GL-4 or GL-5, capacity 2.3qts, recommended viscosity SAE 75W-90. there is nothing about differential though, only something about clutch (fluid type SAE J1703 DOT3).
it's possible the differential shares the fluid with tranny then ? since they do not give the drain & refill capacity of differential, then maybe it's shared and you fill it through the dipstick together with tranny oil ?
have you checked the level of tranny fluid ? is it low now ? is there any fluid at all now ?

No. Your wheels are locked solid, makes turning a real bummer.
Being serious, the diff is part of the whole unit, unlike the auto transmission where it is a separate unit with a separate drain/fill. That's my understanding anyway.
Only problem is as it os a manual trans I do not have a dip stick
I understand the possibility of one being the same = trans/diff
However need to confirm it - as well - where the fill point is on the manual trans
