Drew's 95 Gen 3.5 Toyota Camry

Well here she is! (apologies for image quality, cell phone and all that)

With the Pinstriping

Without the Pinstriping (I removed it first day)

These are the only spots with rust, any suggestions?

Gen 3.5 Stereo Install:
Remove Trim with small screwdriver by prying out the bottoms.

Bust out the four bolts and pull deck out.

Take the bolts out of the stock deck and replace with new one.

I had a USB output on the back of my new deck and so I wired it into the glove box. The Camry made this very very easy! First I removed the trim piece on the driver side of the glove box.

Then I trimmed a little hole into it near the back.

Then re-installed with the usb cord coming through the hole.

My Deck also came with the Bluetooth Audio so I ran the microphone cable up so I could glue it just above the rearview mirror. That way both driver and passenger can use it. Really bad picture though sorry.

And then of course the finished product:

This is one of the first installs I've done with the dimmer as well as the automatic antenna, but they are both working awesome so I must have done something right.

I currently have the whole back seat torn apart b/c I was going to install the 6x9's back there, but I'm thinking now I might go and have that done. It'll be around 60 bucks and i REALLY don't feel like mucking around with drilling new holes and all that.

Heres the new JL C2's beside the stock speakers.

So there we go a shotgun blast worth of photos for my first official 'i'm an owner now' post. Expect more in the coming days and weeks!

Nice ride... Your engine is super clean. I just cleaned out my engine bay myself on my 96 5SFE and it looks so much better now. You don't need to drill new holes for speaker installation. Just refer to chronoti's post and purchase those brackets. It's pretty easy actually, I did it myself for the first time a couple years ago.

Well it's mostly patience... and the fact that I work in a detail shop helps to. The biggest thing I found was giving it a good chance to soak with the degreaser, I did 2 or 3 applications to really break everything up and then a spray with a real hot pressure washer. After that I soaked a rag in some degreaser and went to town on all the metal pieces, another spray, and then a rubber and vinyl dressing to finish it up.

Sweet! I'm going to call and see what they'll charge me for an install at a local shop, mostly because I'm impatient, but if they can't do it for about the cost of those mounts then I'll be making an Ebay purchase! Thanks very much.

Today the car is going in for new T-belt, water pump, thermostat, and general inspection at Toyota, nothing like a little preventative maintenance.

Thanks for all your comments, I'm loving this car!

Hey another question quick about those adapter plates. Are they quite thick? The idea that you mount them in the factory location and then drill your new speaker into the adapter?

As well, for those that have replaced their front speakers, is it worth getting the fronts as well?

1) yes, they're thick

2) yes, why not replace the front speakers? If you're upgrading the sound system, don't do it half-assed.

I have a set of those adapter plates. They made the install much easier, and faster. You mount the speaker to the adapter, then mount the speaker/adapter to the stock mounting location. However; they will leave a small gap between the adapter plates, and the metal "shelf." You'll need to fill that gap with sealant, or at the very least stuff the gap with soft foam. This will help to improve the sound even more.

+1 For removing the pin striping, cheapens its look.

Love how it looks like it's not a 15 year old car, looks more like a year old
