3rd Generation Another HID question...

Hey I am thinking about buying some HIDs and putting them in my stock headlights. My question is, will they work with the grid or will the light be dim and even more scattered than with a clear lens. My headlights are very clean and are fairly new replacements so i do not want to purchase new ones or change them soon. The HIDs are also more for looks than actual use, since the streets where I live are all very lit up. I want that bright ass light blue look from far away lol

Here is a pic of the grid.

No no no no never no no NO. Don't run HIDs in the stock headlights. Don't run HIDs in clear lensed lights. Only run HIDs in head lights with a projector retrofit. You're going to have massive glare and blind everyone on the road if you dont. Plus, the light output will be worse, if not, the same as stock.

ya man you gotta do a projector retrofit, other wise like lynchbugCSI said, there will be tons of glare, and you will eventually get pulled over..

Getting pulled over, not so likely.. getting flashed to the point where it annoys you as much as it annoys oncoming drivers, way more likely.

Just do a retrofit if you really want HIDs.. if you want the blue look still then you can just get high K rating bulbs..but your output will just be really horrible.. still you said streets are lit up well and you don't care.

So you don't think a cop going the opposite way of him won't pull him for it? It has happened before and will happen again, don't get them unless you retrofit

Not in New York, so many people have them that cops don't even bother to pull over for it anymore.

with such ribbed stock head lights (lamps) you will blind everybody to hell. glare will be terrible.

forget it. get HIR bulbs, much easier and better brightness:
http://hirheadlights.com/

they are almost plug & play fit for your camry 9005/9006 housing (that's the ones gen3 uses? not sure)... besides they are fed off car's harness, so no ballasts and bullshit required for HID.

HIR is your BEST option in stock 9005/9006 reflectors.

alternatively you could try Phillips Xtreme Power bulbs for 9006 (low beam):

I may be exposing my ignorance, but if the heat output is much greater than stock you also run the risk of damage to the housing. I saw a guy who had completely melted his highlander headlights and tried to claim warranty! (But as I said, not entirely sure those were HID's, they were blue???)

since your streets are alreday bright and you just want the blue light, go for something like those blue tint coated bulbs like these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/9006-...Q5fAccessories

Remember that NY isn't VA... aka the worst driving state in the US.

Not gonna lie, that's probably true.

The bulbs sssgood recommended will only make it look white.. hard to get blue with regular bulbs, but search further and you will find some.

can't agree about part in red. there is not much glare with proper bulbs equipped with anti-glare shields (in clear lens that is). only problem that it is still illegal and cut off is poor, light focus is bad with no projector, true. however with proper (a little lower) adjustment nobody will get blinded.

I have them in clear headlights and no projectors, because i'm too cheap to spend like $800 for a retro job.
with good bulbs (anti-glare shield) the glare is minimal. hence i got no tickets for it for almost a year of driving.

my point is that you can try HID kit in clear lens and try driving it for a while until you make up your mind about doing retro or going back to non-HID options. retro is damn expensive.

i'm not saying I recommend it, because i don't and will be switching to Phillips Xtreme Power bulbs in a few weeks or so. just for fun want to go to inspection station (August) with HIDs in and see if they pass it
