3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Looking at a diagram, there is something called a "low pitched" and a "high pitched" horn for my vehicle.
Behind the grille, I only see one horn. Is there a second one elsewhere?
I was looking to replace the stock horn(s) with this one: http :// www. jcwhitney .com/ultra-compact-extra-loud-horns/p2009019.jcwx (remove the spaces)
If there are indeed two separate horns, would I replace them both, or does my i4 2000 Camry only have one horn?
One:
There are 2 horns in the positions that uibalnme said.
Two:
I have a Hi/Lo spiral shell type horn that I haven't gotten around to installing yet. I plan to mount it low in the grill to face forward and have to make a bracket to hold it.
Ideally you should have it on a relay and hook it up to the existing horn wires so when you hit the steering wheel horn, it'll activate the new horns.
But you can just put it on a separate switch like fog lights.
Either way, don't forget to have a wire harness with a fuse.
I went to a boneyard and got the dual horns out of a '70's Cadillac. Those things are freakin' LOUD!!... not like the anemic "mweep mweep" of the stockers.

there are two horns. one is behind the grille, and the other is tucked inside the driver side fender(it is in the gen3/3.5 anyway).
by the way, the link doesn't work.
part two:
good luck finding space for that to fit.
Ok, I knew I remembered seeing a second horn somewhere. I think it's visible when you remove the bumper?
Link fixed. Remove the spaces for it to work. The forum messes it up and causes it not to work otherwise.
I was considering putting that big horn in the area of under where the coolant reservoir sits. But now that I read it's 16"... I'm not sure it's going to fit. I'm sure I can figure something out though =)
So, now that I know there are two horns, would I just replace both of them with the same one from that link? It's not sold in a hi/lo variety.

I want to make the standard horn louder, so I'm thinking of replacing those two with the one from the first link.
But I don't want it to be TOO loud, so I'd rather have that super loud one on a separate button. How does one go about setting up a fuse for a custom harness?

lol thats awesome. i just had to replace mine and the poopy aftermarket one is so pathetic.
^ Uhhhhh that ain't gonna work. Just chop the wires from the old horns. One will be 12+ and the other will be ground. Test them with a multimeter, then solder them up (possibly with new extensions) to the new horns.

^ That's what I see a lot of people do. Eyeball96 and ASG14 did that, IIRC. Except the have Hella's.

He was referring to the additional horn I want to add with a separate switch, not the ones controlled by the horn button on the steering wheel.
