2000 Toyota Camry Solara SE V6

1) Installed an after market radio and I think the technician used the wrong harness, they used: Metra 70-1761 which I think is wrong? The only way I can really tell is to find the amp and unplug it?

2) What kind of speakers does anyone recommend after I get the amp issue straightened out?

3) Currently have Michelin tires, 205/60/16. Heard Yoko's were pretty good as well.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. ty!

welcome to forums cm$1!

what is the problem with after market radio that you suspect something wrong ?

me myself using stock radio/cd with stock speakers still on my 4banger solara hehe, can't help much with after market tips on those. maybe others will chime in.

on tires, i suggest you go to the www.tirerack.com and browse tires for your wheels. you can sort results by reviews and ratings, very useful.

that's how i found Dunlop SP Sport Signature (V speed rated) tires for my 15'' stock rims at excellent price!

also, feel free to post any questions on your engine and transmission of your solara as they are exactly same as camry equivalent (gen4.5).
1mz-fe engine is very popular in this section of forums

good luck!

The radio is fine, but I've lost some thump to my bass. Crutchfileld advised me to use the harness "Metra 70-8113", however the guy at Best Buy told me they were wrong and it's "Metra 70-1761". I think Best Buy might be wrong. So I don't even think I'm using my amp? the only to tell for sure is to locate it, unplug it, and see if it changes. Unless someone knows otherwise about these harness's. Kinda makes me wonder why I switched out the factory Head Unit as it was working fine.

Are you still rocking with the factory speakers as well? thinking about switching those up after I get the amp issue resolved.

I've been to www.tirerack.com, it's a great site. But they don't have Yoko's rating's on any Yoko product. I used the Michelin's 2x since the Dunlop's that were originally on the car and am wondering if I should stick with them since the car is used to them and I'm coming up on 120k. Thoughts?

Hey man!
So I just wanna ask a few clarifying questions before I jump into anything:
1. Does your car have the factory amplifier? Or are your talking about running an aftermarket one?
2. Are you running subwoofers, or your saying that your factory speakers are not putting out as much bass.

Also for troubleshooting you could check this pdf.

That's all I got!

Trust Crutchfield over the idiots at Best Buy. You know what's up with the tires.

As for your tires I would suggest the Michelins, maybe the Primacy MXV4 92H (running them now on a '98 Camry, like them alot) although my tire size a bit different at 205/65/15. I know they're a more expensive tire but Michellins usually are longer wearing and IMHO safer than the Yokos. They have a $70 rebate for 4 tires right now that's another plus to consider and you may never have to buy another tire again.

Had a '00 ES300 running on top of the line Bridgestones which was another good tire but not so much in the tread wear department. Wish they could last as long as the Michelins.

Using GY Assurance ComfortTreds on a '02 RX300 now but will not buy again as I think the Michelins are a cut above.

Also have a '06 Benz ML350 running Michelin LTX tires and they are really good. Better than the GY TripleTreds that I had at one time.

Heard good things about the BFG T/A's but never tried them. They are owned by Michelin, which may have something to do with their quality and in the same price category as the Yokos could be another option.

Driving style and conditions for you and I are different so take that into consideration (I never go over 65 mph and it don't snow in Hawaii except on top our volcano)

Aloha and welcome to the Nation

1) Yes, my car has the factory amplifier. I have an after market radio.
2) No subwoofers. I have the original 2 rear 6x9s and the 6.5 w/components on the front doors. the 6x9s used to have much more bass.

Let me know what your thinking. And thanks for your help!

The factory JBL amp puts out more power than the new radio does. The 70-8113 harness will let the factory JBL amp power the speakers again, but it may also buzz and whine. At the shop I worked at (mecp installer for 7 yrs) we would recommend to use the 70-1761 harness to bypass the factory amp too. You can try switching to the other harness but it may sound worse. For optimal sound quality you should get a new amp to replace the factory one. A decent $100-200 amp will be plenty of power for the factory speakers and fine when you replace them with aftermarket ones.

I have a 2002 Solara with Pioneer Premier TS-D 6 1/2 comps and 6x9's. They sound great even with just the factory amp pushing them. I had an aftermarket stereo for a while with the jbl amp bypassed. It sounds better now with the factory radio and amp...amazing how just a small bump in power will wake your speakers up! ;-p

Thanks for the info. Do you know where I could possibly find instructions on how to remove my front car seats? I think I have a mold/mildew issue. Long story.

SIRIUS Antenna Cover & Mold

Does anyone know where I could possibly find instructions on how to remove my front car seats? I think I have a mold/mildew issue amd need to do some serious scrubbing.

Also, I saw a post "STEALTH Satellite Radio Antenna Install" and was wondering the same thing, that is on how to cover the Sirius Antenna. I'm not a fan of the Shark Fin as it wouldn;t look right on my car. However I like what I've been seeing on the 2010 Corolla's and I think the Acura TLs have something similar? I've been searching high and low with no such luck.
