A/C controls in dash removal question

I just replaced my instrument cluster lights earlier this week. I would like to get to the bulbs behind the climate controls in the center of the dash to remove the green covers and paint them blue as well. I searched the other lighting threads but didn't see anything on how to remove the ac control area. My ac doesnt work, but the blowers and heat still do so I don't want to break any of the controls. Someone mentioned something about taking out the glove box to get back there. Is that correct? And does anybody have tips on how to make this job easy as possible?

Thanks guys

remove the same trim you did for your cluster, and you should see 4(?) screws around the controls remove those should pull out a bit, disconnect the wires at this point you (and if you have not the xle push button) you should only have the inside outside wire left but you can remove the bulbs at this point

Thanks, you were right, it pulled out just enough to get the bulbs out.

Seeing the issue is resolved, I'm going to hijack this thread rather than create a new one. Is it possible to install the push button HVAC controls from a V6 into my car which is the 4 cylinder mechanical style? And by possible I mean reasonable without replacing dozens of parts.

No. The push button system requires small motors which are buried in the dash. You'd have to disassemble the entire dash of both cars to do the swap. I looked into this years ago. The work involved wouldn't be worth it. I'm fine with my rotary controls.

lol I'm fine with them too if I have to rip the whole interior apart to do the swap. Thanks for the info.

Sucks that Toyota went cheap on the LE, my 87 LE has nice push button controls dammit, and an nice temperature slider. I like buttons and sliding things.
