95 Gas Smells

Gas smells at the rear of car. Had tank replaced at dealer about 7 years ago because of same problem. Local grease monkey sealed the fuel pump "container" about 6 months ago. Gas smell came back.
Tank releases air pressure when opened so i do not think i have a cracked gas tank again. Any experience you have will be greatly appreciated.

Remove the rear seat by lifting along the front edge with your hands to disengage the clips, then pull it ahead to disengage the rear. You will then see a cover underneath that is held down with a number of screws. The cover can be removed to gain access to the top of the fuel sender unit. This is where the fuel lines are connected. Check for wet spots of gasoline around this area. Also check underneath the car, just ahead of the rear drivers side tire for leaking or wet spots of gasoline from the fuel lines.

I'm having the same problem on my 94. I can see a damp spot form the fuel pump access panel under the seat, but can't get to it from there. I get a leak if I go over half a tank full. I plan to drop my tank sometime soon...just hate to b/c the exhaust has to come off to get to it.

If you un-hook the two rubber hanger mounts on the muffler, and the hanger ahead of the muffler, you can let the exhaust hang down enough to get the tank out. No need to remove the exhaust from the engine.

Why would you wanna take the tank out? The fuel pump and tank sender are under the rear seat. Then again, maybe the filler tube requires tank droppage?
