Great Mileage after changing spark plugs

After changing to NGK platinum spark plugs, with 56 liters of gas (15.1 gallons) I got 830 kilometers (519 miles) 90% highway.

That translates to 34.4 mpg!!

Your math is a bit off, you actually got 34.5 mpg.

Congrats.

Great...I have NGK wires but I think the plugs are Autozone platinum. I'm guessing you ran the tank all the way empty to figure it out?

I usually only let mine run until the 1/4 mark...which after my last trip was about 434 miles, if Im correct.

Now I know that I can go atleast another 70-80 before I run out completely!

i might be wrong about this but when i went to get plugs for my 96 2.2FL at autozone, special notes on their computer stated something about the plugs having to be Iridium type?
What is the best performance spark plug for the 2.2FL Camrys?( not trying to highjack, however since were on the issue)

Whats the part number to those NGK plugs 7092?

NGK 7092 translates to GP-Series Platinum #BKR6EGP. These are thin electrode platinums, also known as budget plats. Not bad at all at $2.44 + shipping on rockauo.

I would rather get NGK BKR6EIX-11 Iridium-IX (#3764) at $6.40 each plus shipping. These should give you better performance but it's not likely noticeable.

You've mentioned these a couple of times. I have Denso on my 5SFE (car came with them originally, so I replaced with same part#) is there any benefit to switch? Looking for any extra performance/mileage I can get.

In general, NGK Iridium-IX should give you extreme ignitability, improved throttle response and superior anti fouling. Now I didn't say this, NGK did :
http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/product...x.asp?mode=nml

Gen 4 5SFE should come with dual ground electrode platinums and not iridiums, no? Gen 4 had the stinking waste spark system. Toyota fixed this mistake in Gen 5, and the later ones came with iridiums with platinum ground pads (~120K mile intervals).

I'm sure they'll both work very well. But IME NGK seems to wear better over time than Densos. No need to switch if you have the IK20(?) iridiums from Denso until the time to change.

The NGK Iridium-IX has a thinner iridium electrode than their Laser Iridium, which has a platinum ground pad. So the -IX is going to give slightly better performance and ignitability than the Laser-Iridium. But I doubt it's something humans can feel.

Yes pretty sure. I own a Gen3 and Gen4 I should have been more clear, I was asking about my Gen3. On my Gen4, the previous owner had just changed the plugs (done by the dealer) so they put in whatever Toyota specifies. My Gen4 has only 60,000 miles the engine runs like new.

My Gen3 runs great as well, but not as smooth or refined. I guess I should not expect it to. I'll try the NGK's at some point, problem is plugs on these cars last a very long time, at least in my experience.

Splitfire is still around: http://www.splitfire.com/index.html

These are kinda like the NGK V-Power. NGK cut a V-groove in the center electrode to have better ignitability. Click on "View Tip":

http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/product...r.asp?mode=nml

But with NGK Iridium-IX at $6.40/each, why bother with anything else?

(Note: on waste spark systems NGK did not list Laser-Iridium (with platinum ground pad) as an approved application.)
