Auto Lock How To Disable?

My 94 Camry LE has power locks that automatically locks the doors when the engine is started. How can I disable this feature? I have had to use the spare key twice to get back into the car after I got locked out with the engine running.

You can just disable power locks period. Then you've got manual locks.

Chris I like the convenience of power lock. I just don't like the auto locking feature.
Anyone know of another way to defeat the auto lock?

Hmm. . .
I have 95LE and it doesn't do that. Does it have an aftermarket alarm or factory option alarm?

Take a look here in the Body Electrical System. . .

the camry i just bought doesn't do that. its a 99le. it doesn't have an alarm system.
my other camry does that. its a 98le. it has the factory alarm system.

so ^^^he might be right......... i really wanted auto lock doors on my new camry so i came up with the idea that it MIGHT have been the alarm system on the old car that did that. (also when i turn off my car, the old car auto unlocks itself too !)

It HAS to have an aftermarket alarm. It's not a stock feature on gen 3 or 4 camrys. After I installed my aftermarket system on my gen 3, I had it set to do this. You'll have to figure out the make and model of the system on the alarm ECU. That's usually installed on the under side of the dash or under the seat. Then you'd cross reference the model number on the manufacturer's website to get a user manual/installation guide. Read through it, and follow the steps to disable it.

So you're saying if the engine is on and you close the door it locks?

Obviously this is too much work but with a little logic you could detect certain things that only occur when the car is in motion and/or latch a signal to set the alarm. Perhaps something as harmless as the drivers side seat belt being latched. Some AND logic coupled to the ignition??? Although it'd take some thinking and effort to make this happen.

Most car alarm systems have this feature. Mine would lock the doors after the car was started and had the option to unlock them after the car was turned off too. It would only lock the doors when all of them were shut. My system was a remote start/keyless system though.

The car has a sticker on the windshield that says "Security Alarm Shop".

The locks lock as soon as I switch the key to ign mode. This is the position right before start. There could have very well been an alarm system installed but I don't have a remote.

I looked under the dash and seats but do not see an alarm module.

You have to find that alarm ECU. It's hiding somewhere in the car. It HAS to be there. Hmmm...

I'll try to find it this weekend.

If I find it can I get a replacement remote?

You should be able to get a new remote, yes. If we can find the model number on the alarm ecu.
