Resetting ECU- 1995 Toyota Camry V6 XLE

What is the proper procedure for resetting an ECU?

I have read that you should disconnect the battery for 30 minutes, then reconnect the battery and let it idle for 5-10 minutes. Then disconnect the battery for 30 seconds, and then start her back up again and drive her around. Does the drive really matter or will it all ultimately be the same anyway? How do I avoid an airbag sensor code? Is this the proper method?

Thank you,
Techniker

Much easier is to pull out the ECM fuse (15A, engine compartment fuse box) for 15 seconds and reinstall it back.
Or, disconnect the battery and press brake pedal (to discharge all internal capacitors). No need to wait for 30 minutes.

I have heard that just pulling the 15A ECM fuse didn't work and that another fuse had to also be pulled. I am also worried about throwing an airbag code as I hear they can be quite a pain. What are the risks?

Thanks,
Techniker

Always worked for me All codes are gone. No risks at all.
Disconnecting the battery, from other hand, might be risky, if you have stereo with a anti-thieving code and you don't remember/know it

Thanks again for the prompt reply. I'm not so much trying to remove a code, as I'm hoping to completely reset the ECU's memory in the hope that it will regain its senses. It keeps throwing a P0773 code and I can't find anything wrong with anything (including the computer check). Does it give the rougher idle like its supposed to when you pull this fuse?

Thank you,
Techniker

Never paid attention to the idle after removing/re-installing the fuse, actually. But the common sense is saying me that it should reset the ECU completely, since by removing the fuse you are cutting off the ECU's power. Same effect as disconnecting the battery. Just try, it is easy.

Edit: yes, idle is back to high after resetting ECU by fuse.
