Mystery Wire found... any guesses! :) PICS INSIDE

So it starts here, on the driver side most coil:

Then it snakes it's way over to here.

Note how harsh a drill hole it is
From the inside it looks like:

where it then runs to

where it appears to go into the diagnostics somewhere.

I found this today when I was going to start doing the install for my amplifier. Looking over the firewall for holes to put the 4 gauge wire through I saw this. It's definitely not from factory, but knowing the previous owner of this vehicle I know for sure they did not do this. I am thinking that it is from the Autostart, but I'm not entirely sure.

My plan at this point is to unhook the battery, cut the wire, drill out the hole to 5/16ths, put in a grommet, run my 4 gauge through it, and reconnect the wire. It should look more professional, remove the sharp edges that are damaging the wire, and allow for a nice clean hole for the amp wire to run through.

So what your saying is that if I drill out this hole a little bit more then I'm one step closer to my 5 spd conversion!

I'd put my money on a tach wire for a remote start system. The installer should have put a rubber grommet on that hole.

That's a half-assed installation. The installer left out plastic or rubber grommets to prevent the wire from rubbing on the metal. over time, movement of the wire can wear away the insulation and cause a short or sever the wire.

Yeah I concur. I had a friend of mine who worked at Toyota do the install for me. It was 210 bucks for everything installed, (150 for the starter @ cost + 10% and 2 cases of beer) but now I'm nervous wondering what other corners he cut. He's a good guy, was probably just rushing a little. Anyway since I was installing an amp I cut the wire he had there, drilled out the hole a little bigger, put in a rubber grommet, ran my 4 gauge amp wire through it along with the tach wire (which I remembered to re-attach) and then I sealed the whole deal with black silicone. So no air flow, no vibrations, and no more sharp edges. Plus I'll have to go get some beer back from my buddy.

Anyway I'll be posting up these pics soon as part of a DIY for amp install on the Gen 3.5, it's been a bit of a beatch to run the wires as the door sills are so skinny, but I'm really happy with how it's turning out, super clean and can't see the wires and no bumps in the carpet. The trunk looks crazy right now, wires and zip ties and amps and speaker boxes rollin around everywhere!

Heres some pics of what i done did: (also a preview of my DIY)

Here is the hole after I drilled it out a little bit bigger.

Hole with the rubber grommet installed

Hole with both sets of wires running through it

And finally the finished product with the 4 gauge wire covered, and the opening siliconed
